Can't help myself, I like sharing a sale ;) Hope ya'll kick in and share some sales when you find them too. Riding gear surely adds up.
Anyway, today I get an email, this Rev'it Hi Viz jacket was just reduced. I have a similar Rev'it Hi Viz jacket, the Dragon, that I think was replaced by this Energy HV. I can't say enough about mine, love it! Once there, click to see all the photos http://www.motorcyclegear.com/street/cl ... acket.html

I have been thinking about getting a "real" jacket with some armour. We went to the local store (where I originally got the scoot), and it was very quiet. I found some OK stuff, but it seemed heavy (I was more looking at cool weather stuff). Then the Admiral started snooping around and had me try a Revit Tornado 3 season jacket, pointing out that if I was going to go for protective gear, I should consider gear that would be useful during peak season as well as in cooler weather. Well. the jacket fit well and felt great. It must have been quiet for quite some time, because the guy dropped over $50 off, beating Revzilla by, well, $50. So... the jacket followed me home. It has been out once so far, and I think I'm going to really like it.

I have a friend who rides a Harley - his line was "Dress for the crash, not the ride". A bit pessimistic, but probably good advice.

Josh - when I first got the scooter, I picked up a Joe Rocket high-viz vest. It is light, cool, goes over anything I choose, and certainly is high viz. It does not match my helmet (My wife's Fly Fast-Pass is exactly the right color), but the price is pretty swallowable, and adds quite a bit to your "presence" on the road.

Assuming, of course, that the driver is looking.

+ one on the quality of the Rev'it jackets, I also have a Rev'it Dragon jacket and matching pants, I have done rides in excess of 1000km in the rain and stayed warm and dry (no not on the pcx that's the wife's bike, I have a couple of old school Suzuki Katana's),
I have also done a fair bit of riding in 35 degree C with the liners out and the vents open, I am very happy with what the riding gear offers and my wife likes her Dragon jacket as well

Cheers
Max

Well, canceled my order. I found a high viz vest at Walmart for $10. It was hard to swallow the cost of the jacket when I saw the price of just a vest.
The reflective material is awesome and the vest nearly glows.

Fits very snug over my jacket so it shouldn't flap too bad in the wind. I'll probably have my wife put some of those metal rings on the back that I can incorporate into the belt loops of my jacket.

Best of all it fits into a sandwich sized zip lock bag to keep under the seat.

I bought 2 from wallyworld. But mine are 3 years old. One orange, one yella and back then I only paid $7.50.
And you don't care if it becomes damaged, so it lasts forever.

Probably

Does he crash each time he rides, otherwise it is a bit of a waste of platitudes?

No, not every time. But he does do around 10,000 miles per year, which is quite a bit in New England. He claims to have gone down four times, but never at high speed. On no occasion was it planned.

It very well might be a waste of a good platitude, but it does help one feel better about spending a fair amount of money for something that one hopes to never need.

If he is a Harley ride I totally understand he will go down regularly

How many times has he crashed though?

Josh, it's a plus that you got some hi-viz. Reflective tape or stickers work too (like on your helmet or scoot). "Some is better than none" especially when sporting black gear. I'm guessing your black jacket has armor so your slip on vest would be fine. As you mentioned, secure it from flapping.
Heck, it's hard to pass up a good buy 8) Walmart comes through again ;)
