HANDLE BAR WEIGHTS

Post by Lynny74 »

Hi Folks

I am UK based and bought some handle bar weights for my hubby's black PCX 125, nice shiny silver.

When he finally managed to get the factory fitted ends off using brute force and a bit of swearing we saw that the inside of the handle bar was not flush, it had a bit took out, sort of stepped if you like.

The silver ones were flat, so the two ends didn't match up.

Tried using washers to recreate the shape to no avail as you can imagine the vibrations made them come lose.

Had the ends I bought machined. Problem solved?

NO

The one for the throttle was now to tight on the handlebar, so out came washers again to make the step higher.

It turns out that these silver handle bar weights are from Thailand and for a PCX 150.

So just watch out if you are buying replacement stuff for your bike.

Make double triple sure they are for the 125....
Lynny

Good heads-up, I didn't know the PCX 150's handlebars were different.

I had to fabricate a spacer when I added larger barend weights to my PCX because of the "step." You can find metal spacers at hardware stores, and just grind off half if you have some tools. I used an angle grinder and a bench vice.

Just curious here.....why are Ya'll adding Larger Handlebar Weights to the PCX...??? I've added Them to Other Various Bikes over the years, but generally because of vibration through the Handlebars. I've really never experienced this with the PCX125 or 150.....just wondering..... 8)

Vibration is exactly why -- the PCX is a bit buzzy. Not nearly as bad as a lot of bikes I've owned, but barend weights make a big difference when you're riding for hundreds of miles at a time.

OK....suppose I've owned so many other worse "buzzers", I guess I pay no attention to the PCX150...... ;) :D

For the most part, I think many purchase them for cosmetic reasons.

C'mon Skuuter, you don't really think we are going to believe that after you posted the pictures of those trikes and acknowledged owning one of them. ;) Those are some real nice machines with quite a bit of "Form" looking things on them. :D

My former scoot, a Piaggio MP3 had a bit of vibration and quite a bit of front end weight. Turns just seemed easier with the stock ends exchanged (why? Not sure) Here are the ones I mounted (bit of Bling too ;)
Another feature of these bar end weights is the channel area. They can be used for your "hook" on a tiedown when hauling or bracing a bike. I never used it as such on my MP3 though. Oh, and Looks count, the ones you get and the ones you give ;)

Hmm...Just thinking, maybe this topic would get more exposure/attention if it were moved to the "Accessories" forum. Have you added bar ends yet Lynny?

I put a set of these on but more for looks rather than function.
