Accessory socket inside Front Box

Post by Rick54 »

The front box located below the windscreen, when opened shows access to a 12W (12V,1A) accessory socket. What would be some usage options for this socket?

The accessory outlet comes in quite handy for all sorts of things, such as GPS, iPad or ipod hookup, recharge your phone while riding, and maybe even plug your heated Grips in. The only problem I have with it is closing the door while something is plugged in. Some riders have put a notch in the door to allow a cord to be run from there.

I don't think you should put in the plug for heated gloves if the plug rating is only one amp.

I am thinking of a wire coming from the battery for my heated gloves.

That is probably a better idea for them. For some of the things that need more amps than the accessory plug will allow, I purchased a usb adapter for the Battery Tender pigtail that I have used for other devices. There is even an accessory adapter that plugs into the Battery Tender leads, in case you have an item you want to plug in that does have that amp restriction. Consider having a Battery Tender as more than just a nice thing to have. It comes in handy for keeping your battery charged plus the leads can be used as an extra outlet.

USB circuit works fine for two 18w LED lights that stay on all of the time. More accessories will be added, just need to prioritize them.

Mel46 instead of worrying about the door being open while using outlet or having to notch in the glove box door - I ordered one of these
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B003RQBK ... UUXJC&vs=1
Then velcro to top in front of dash board. I ran the plug down into whole where all the brake cables etc and there is a small opening into glove box. There also happens to be a small notch at bottom the cord fits without drilling or damaging cable. I will take pictures and post later when I go take some photos. Never posted picture here so will have to figure that out also!!!
