engine dies out when trying to move off

Post by retry »

please advise needed what is causing problems, changed oil, filled full tank of petrol (shell), next day it started randomly losing power for 1-2 secs, then day after it got worse.. when trying to move off from stand still motorbike started twitching and engine stops, when trying to start after 2-4 seconds of jorking it starts and works perfect until you try to accelerate then dies out again, some times works fine...

I'll start with the plugs, then clean the air filter. Sounds like either a fuel or an ignition problem. Also read my post about the TPS problem, it might be something similar too.

Therefore - I'd first siphon out the fuel and fill with fresh. Run long enough to also get all the remaining old fuel purged from the fuel lines and filter - and then see if it clears up.

Interesting. Did the bike do that before you filled it at the Shell station??

Shell is good gas, but that does not preclude the station itself from being lax when it comes to removing water from their tanks. If your bike was fine before you filled it, logic says that it was the fuel, since that was the last item changed.

Dirty or poor contacts in the side stand switch. (I think)

Seems to be a problem with the wiring or side stand switch connections, but strange how the ECU wold interpret a momentary 'side stand down' trigger as to make the engine stumble or stop for brief periods of time - I'd imagine once the trigger is received the ECU would cut the engine and that would be it until it is cleared and the ECU gets the 'start up' trigger. Guess not!
