2011 White Honda PCX - Marietta, GA

Post by maddiedog »

May 2011:
Finally picked mine up today. After a SNAFU with the parking brake involving varied language and a wrench, I got the bike home fine. I was amazed at how easy it rides; it is the most natural-feeling 2-wheeler I've ever rode, especially compared to the behemoth PC800 that I rode before the PCX.

I will have to upgrade the horn, it is pathetically soft I don't think people will even notice it. I've got some air horns, I might rig them up later. I also have a windshield on order, it is supposed to arrive tomorrow.

In the meantime, here is a crappy cellphone picture:
Image
I just posted a how-to for the windshield here: http://www.hondapcx.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=19

Next mod will be upgraded horns, stay posted. :)
Added some rim tape:

Might get around to the horns this weekend, no promises though :D

I like the stuff I have. Thanks for the tip though. :)

I added an accessory outlet in the glovebox:
Image

How-to here: http://www.clubpcx.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=291

I was going to add air horns and lighting while I had her open, but the relay on the air horns blew out while I was testing it! They were loud as hell too, so it is a shame they didn't work. Lesson learned: Don't buy ANYTHING from Harbor Freight. It all breaks and is beyond shitty quality. As for the lighting, the lights I were going to use turned out to be UV LEDs, not white LEDs. UV would look too tacky, so I left that off for now too.

I'm going to order a Stebel Nautilus eventually and use it instead: http://www.amazon.com/Stebel-Nautilus-C ... 344&sr=8-1

I may add lighting later, may not. I haven't decided. If I were to, I would use a couple of kits like this: http://www.amazon.com/SeaSense-LED-Util ... 590&sr=8-1

June:
I ordered a couple of almost-flushmount LED turn signals to replace the stock stalks, here is what they look like:
Image

I'm going to replace both front and back turn signals with them. I'll also remove the fugly side reflectors. They will be placed per the red blobs on the awesome MSpaint diagram below:

I just finished the rear fender removal and rear LED install:

This pic was an accident, but looks cool:

And here is where the license plate ended up:

I'll upload a video in a second... EDIT: HERE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2MHhLNSF6c

July, ordered a backrest:
I picked up the package today from the post office... It looked rough:
Image

I didn't have to open the box, it was torn open already. It was REALLY beat up, the chrome was chipping through in some places, and a few pieces were missing.
Image

Random hole in the cover...
Image

Close-up...
Image

At this point, I've given up on the vendor, shipping, and Thailand in general. I've been at this for more than a month, and am just out of patience. I think I can make this one work, but I'll have to repaint it and have it reupholstered or repaired or something...

As usual with anything from there, this came with no instructions and really didn't make much sense in how it fits on.

I went ahead and mocked the rack up:
Image

The problem is, the metal substructure under the rear wing won't fit on right with the rack in place where it is supposed to mount:
Image

This weird-ass support bar is in the way:
Image

But, the support bar partially functions like the metal substructure, and allows me to mount everything in place:
Image

But, the plastic trim isn't clipped in place, is unsupported, and would very easily break. I think this is the way I'm supposed to do it, but I think it also looks like shit from behind, since you can see all the clips and such. In addition, water would easily intrude, and get all sorts of things wet that aren't supposed to get wet.
Image

I figured I could salvage the part by chopping the support bar, perhaps that would give it enough room. I grabbed the angle grinder and started chopping:
Image

The welds were REALLY strong... What this thing lacks in build quality and finish, it makes up for in brute strength. The whole rack is way heavier than it needs to be. Even still, I got through:
Image

But the welds were still there, and the edges were NASTY:
Image

I smoothed them out:
Image

Now it was closer to fitting, but I also needed to grind down the metal support on the rear wing to make sure the plastics all line up. I lined them up:
Image

Marked the cuts:
Image

And ground them out. The picture below is about halfway done:
Image

And then I put it all together for the end result. Pardon the shitty quality, it got dark on me:

September:
I sold a bunch of stuff on ebay, and ended up with more than the monthly withdraw limit on my paypal account...

So, of course I decided the only rational thing was to spend the remainder that I couldn't withdraw on some riding gear and some PCX parts. They arrived today!

The package:
Image

The contents:
Image

Tools for the job (10mm ratchet, philips head screwdriver):
Image

Before:
Image

Remove the exhaust cover using the ratchet. Fit the trim in place, with the washers between the cover and the trim. Make sure the thicker washer is towards the front of the bike, otherwise the part won't fit right.
Image

Install:
Image

After:
Image

Before from farther out:
Image

Further out view after:
Image

The second part was even simpler, if you could believe it. Make sure your scooter is clean first, otherwise this part won't stick...
Before:
Image

Image

It just mounted with VHB tape:
Image

Peel off the tape:
Image

Place CAREFULLY in place. Once stuck, the VHB tape won't come off.
Image

Press part as hard as possible, to form a strong bond:
Image

And you're done.
Image

From a distance:
Image

The scooter in its current state:
Image

Image

Image

The two trim pieces cost €57, which is $84 USD. I REALLY like the exhaust trim, but I wouldn't have bought the CVT cover trim if I could do it over again. Either way, I don't really care because it was basically free to me (yay selling junk on ebay!). :D

I think I'll get my rims powdercoated white as my next mod. I really like the look of Alleykat's PCX with the white rims, MUST HAVE THEM.

Same. I think there's a lot more juice left in this bike after the limiter kicks in.

its a shame about the limiter,my old honda dylan wouldnt do a lot more, but would be nice to be able to do 70,its hard work in traffic at 60 when you havent got it enuff left to get by. My old x max yam would sit at 70 all day a nudge 80 flat out.but otherwise cant knock the pcx ,very pleaed :x
Scoots so far- Peugeot jetforce 125,honda Dylan 125,yamaha x max 125,honda pcx 125,honda nss300 forza ;-) and bikes were kh250, zxr750L1,zx9B1,zx9c1,wr426,xjr1300sp,09-z1000

TX3x2gun - I got them through this German site: http://www.hondapcxcbr125forum.com/t608 ... blick.html

They shipped to USA, and were pretty reasonable. They speak english, so if you PM them on their forum asking to buy the PCX exhaust garnish in silver, they'll work with you. I think I paid via Paypal.

Hi there..

The PCX has finally hit South African shores!!! woohoo.. I'm getting mine on Thursday!!
I'm looking to get a wheel sticker kit as oneof the accessories.. Is it necessary to remove
the wheels in order to fit the sticker or is it pre cut to stick on and join up??4

I have a miniature pinscher who loves riding on my bike too :)

If by wheel stickers you mean rim tape, you don't need to take the wheels off.
Four decades on two wheels has taught me nothing, all advice given is guaranteed to be wrong

It's not necessary, the sticker kit is divided into segments, and so you put it on in 5 or 6 pieces.

Be sure to upload pics of you and your dog riding when you get the bike! And, welcome to the forums! :)

Looking good Dave! Mine is never dirty as I always hose it down after a wet ride and wipe it down. I have always been anal in the way with all my bikes.
