Oil leak

More of a heads-up really, as I don't think there are enough SH300 owners around here yet to find someone else with this issue.

I've done 1800 miles on my SH300i which I picked up new in April. It's the perfect 2-wheeler for me at the moment.

I noticed a drop of oil on the floor last week. Looking into the bodywork there's possibly some creaminess towards the top of the engine. This might be lithium grease on something, but could also be oil and water. Oil looks tidy on the dipstick and the water reservoir is clear.

Any suggestions about what might be going on? It's booked into Fowlers next week, so they can sort it out. I'll update when they've had a look.

Mechanical seal at the waterpump would be my suggestion.
Its the same a sthe Forza, there's a weep hole under the water pump, check for drips.

First pick, you can see oil on the casing, and it runs down to the bottom where it runs off. You can also see the creaminess higher up. Second photo, more cream....

Yup, there's a gasket needs replacing. I don't know which one though. Whichever it is, they can't get the gasket for 3-5 days, so I'm left to play with the SV650 loan bike. I'm not complaining.

Is the loaner the current model AL7...?
They're rather good.

It's a 66 plate. A bit harsh after riding the SH, but very quick. I need to spend some more time on it.

Have you checked the rear spring pre-load setting?
The firm seat although comfortable doesn't help absorb any bumps.
With roughly three times the hp of an SH its definitely quicker.

Well the scoot was ready for me today, so I had to give the 650 back. I was starting to get used to it, but also reminded why I'd rather not have a bike which would allow me so much stupidity.

The oil leak? According to the dealer the engine came out of the factory with no head gasket fitted. They've rebuilt the head and put it back together, and it seems to be fine. Are there likely to be any long-term issues?

Try not to worry about it at least you had a dealership that could handle the job. Cross your fingers and maybe your luck will change from here on in.

WOW! NO head gasket, must have roll off the assembly line on friday. That's the first we've seen of such goofiness.

I've reported the issue to them and said that I'm not happy having bought a flawed bike and ridden it for 1800 miles. I didn't pay for a compromise.

I wonder if they told you the lack of head gasket just to mollify you. Would the scoot work AT ALL without a head gasket? And wouldn't there be a fair bit of white vapor in the exhaust, since the head gasket is what is supposed to keep the coolant from getting to the combustion chamber?

I thought exactly the same.

That’s my suspicion too.

Or just a misunderstanding/communication error.

Less charitably My first thought was that the dealer was taking the liberty and luxury of BSing the OP.
