Help to remove scratches from black polished front section

Post by shoz09 »

Hello, I hope someone can help me as I have managed to create small "cleaning" scratches in the front section of my brand new Forza 125! They are in the front black polished section of the bike and I dont know what to do to hide or remove them that will not damage the "plastic" or is it "acrylic"?? Has anyone any ideas - based in UK. Thanks in advance.

Any plastic polish will work such as NOVUS, or a finishing polish such as meguires #205. Lots of rubbing.....l.

I don't know what they sell over in Scotland, but here in the States I use Novus Plastic Polish. I bought mine on Amazon. It comes in 3 different 'degrees' for different depths of scratches. Go to amazon and read up on it.

The same thing happened to my new Forza 125 the first time I washed this panel clean. So now I just I spray it with soapy water then dab it dry with kitchen towel and live with the scratches which I think would be difficult to polish out.

How was it washed? What kind of cleaning cloth? Microfibre is recommended above sponges and normal clothes, although it seems that panel or the paint on the Forza 125 is not so good.

I am worried about using a scratch remover as scared it makes it worse...but may try of a wee section and see how I get on. I also had used a microfiber cloth....maybe a hand with water is the only way no sponge or cloth?

I use Novus #1 on the windshield and it works quite well at not only cleaning it but also protecting it during riding. It puts a nice coating on it that you can't see but makes the water slide off nicely, and then when you use it to clean the bugs off, they just slide right off. It also makes cleaning the rest of the bike easy as well if I spray this on the body of the bike after washing it. You just squirt it on and wipe it off.

The professional way to get out scratches from plastic is the use of finishing polish like one of the heavier Novus numbers, a medium foam pad and an orbital set at medium speed. It will take many passes to get the scratches out so it's not an aggressive operation that you can overdo. After that apply a sealant to preserve the gloss.

A cheap, alternative is just take the piece off the bike and take it to a body shop. They can do it in 10 minutes with one of their machines.

If the scratches are just surface scratches it mat be overkill to go through all of that effort. I would try the other options first.
