How-To "General Guidelines"

Posts in how-to should be informative, comprehensive guides designed to instruct the community through a process.

Posts asking a question about maintenance should go in the Technical Help subforum.

Posts that are a how-to for a one-off mod, or something really cool but unlikely to be a common task that anyone else would attempt should go in the Gallery subforum.

An example of an excellent how-to is EddieC's guide for Adjusting the Combi Cable or Adjusting the Valves. Please format any new topics in this thread similar to Eddie's guides, including lots of pictures.

If you have a question about a how-to, do not create a new thread. Please reply to the thread with the relevant guide if you have questions. It doesn't matter if no one has posted in the thread in months or years -- bump that thread and ask your question there to keep the content relevant and consolidated, to make finding answers for future readers easier. :D

From here on out, I'm going to manually move threads that are not relevant how-tos to ensure this subforum is as helpful to new readers as possible.

As always, if you've found the content of this site is useful and saves you time and money, feel free to support the site by donating at the link at the bottom of the page. :D

How-to's should perhaps be submitted to you for approval then stickied and locked if they are worthy of inclusion.

I disagree about submission, it doesn't facilitate quick sharing of guides if I'm out of town or too busy to check. A few of the how-to's have been from someone asking a question, then someone else replying quickly with a how-to. That sort of response is awesome, and I want to encourage it. I'd rather people be free to post, then move the posts or request more detail if required.

I also disagree with locking -- if users have questions on the how-to, they should ask in the how-to. Chances are, if one person has a question about the how-to, others might have the the same question. Locking makes sense though, because it will keep the threads from getting derailed... Anyone else have opinions on this? As usual, I'm always open to suggestions.

I'm always for not messing with things unless they get totally out of hand

i think making certain ones sticked would be good... but I'd prefer them not to be locked... but hey... its your site!

I just realized I never replied to the above -- the how-tos will not be locked.

I just moved a string of non how-tos out to General, with one going in Rides and Events. As was said in the first post in this thread: http://hondapcx.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=762#p11114 this subforum is only for how-tos, questions and guidance on any tasks should go elsewhere.

Another reminder,

Only post how-to guides here.

Questions or issues should go in the General Subforum.

I just moved 7 topics. Let's try to make my job easier, and keep everything where it belongs. ;)

Oops, sorry about that. I can't recall, is this guideline also listed in the 'New Users Start Here' thread. If so, my bad for not remembering. If not, it might not be a bad idea to include it there.

Once again, thanks for the great job you do in moderating and maintaining this forum. I am sure that I speak for all 800+ who have joined so far, that your efforts are very much appreciated!

So....."How-To" Threads should go in the "How-To" Forum.....sounds pretty confusing..... :D

"Some" Threads probably should end up being pinned by Administration/Moderators (maddiedog... ;) ), especially when they are "across the board" technical, or maintenance how-tos that apply to most every model of the PCX, and helpful to Everyone here....just my 2-cents.... ;) 8)
