How-To: Install a K&N Air Filter / Replace Your Air Filter

This how-to is simple enough that it might be overkill to even make one, but if this even helps one person, it was worth my effort. :D

All you'll need for the installation is a phillips-head screwdriver. The longer the screwdriver, the better -- a couple of the screws are slightly difficult to access.

Here's what your K&N air filter will look like when it comes in:

Unboxed:

The air filter is located on the back-left of the scooter:

More specifically, right here inside of the airbox:

Remove the 8 screws around the airbox. It should fall right off.

The air filter just rests inside the airbox, and is wedged in there without any screws. It should just lift right out.

Place the new filter in:

Line the airbox and filter back up and screw the airbox back in place.

All done! It should have only taken you 10 minutes or so. ;)

You would struggle to fit your wing mirrors like that for a start :p

HAHA! right! For the filter this rule applies. I remember the first time I busted a wing mirror loose and how that threw me off. double opposite threads... great design, but the first time I came to it I had to stop and think a bit

Take one of the other ones into a local old fashioned hardware shop and they should sort you out with one that will fit.
Or go to a Honda dealer, drop your drawers and bend over.

They're relatively generic, I'd go with GN2's first suggestion.

In the meantime, don't sweat it too much. There are so many screws on that thing, you don't need to worry about one screw missing.

Does the K en N Air filter also apply for the new 2012 esp engine?
Is the original air filter washable? Or can you blow it clean with air compressor?
The manual say don't blow with air compressor. :ugeek:

the stock air filter is designed to be disposed and replaced when the time comes. I would not recommend trying to clean it. I purchased my K&N so I wouldn't have to buy another one ever again. They're very easy to wash and oil.

You can use a K&N filter on just about every engine that utilizes an air filter at all. You would definitely be able to use it on the esp engine or the 150cc engine no problems at all.

I think the question was whether or not the K&N would fit the engine with ESP. The intake did not change when they added ESP, so yes, it will still fit.

The ESP has a different airbox.

I installed them myself! http://hondapcx.org/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=20#p27

That, and the rear fender removal made the back look much swooshier. :D

Swooshier, that'll be the sound of it cutting through the waves powered on by that big spinnaker up the front...
Can you see over it or do you have to look through it?
