Installing a Tucano Urbano R082 on a 2015 PCX

Post by DailyRider »

I need a lap blanket because it makes riding in the rain much more comfortable.

The problem is the Tab 1.
You are supposed to screw it inside the minuscule glove compartment,
on a screw that has moved since 2013.

What I did is replace Tab 1 with a a strap like E,
but on the other side.

Fair warning:
I'm a woman with a sewing machine and I know how to use it.

Pointer for those actually using a sewing machine: You need the sturdiest needle you can find and you need to attach it securely,
because the thick rubberized fabric managed to pull the needle out of the machine the 1st time.

I've blued out a confusing neighboring vehicle.

The whole thing, after inflating the little balloons on the sides and
after a test ride to a nearby grocery store...

This is a flash picture and you can see the reflective parts.

Comments...
Once I added the new strap, it worked great
...but before then, not so much.

The tee connection underneath is to the flimsy heat shield on the engine.
I would worry about damaging it if I were using this setup at freeway speeds.

Otherwise, this Tucano Urbano Termoscud is a great thing
and it comes with a little pillow key chain that protects the scooter's paint from your keys.

Thanks :)
I had already stashed half of the pictures so that I would remember how to put it together next time.

It has been cool and wet since I put it on, so it's nice to have.
But it is ugly.

Okay, it's still on and I rode with strapped it back briefly...
It sure is a lot pleasanter to ride with it in place!

Oops, I accidentally put this under my top box thread.

I took the lap blanket off briefly and found that it was scratching the scooter paint
(a little, I had to enhance the contrast so that you could see it)...
Image

I slapped on some of the clear protective plastic that came with the lap blanket
(without instructions as to where it was needed)...
Image
and put the lap blanket back on, since we're having a cold spell.

I'll fix things up more neatly once the warm season returns.

Oops, missed this for a while...
I believe you can buy one that fits the 2015s in Spain (where they are made),
but they don't export them to the US

Thanks again! I think that these blankets are made in Italy and are readily available in all European countries (cheaper in ebay ;) ). Lately I don't use the scooter for long rides in winter, but if I need to do it in a near future, I'll buy one Tucano for sure!

Ah, you're right :)
It's Italian and now they're claiming that the 82 model covers 2014 onward, and there is no longer an upgraded one available.

I don't know if that means that they fixed the glove box tab problem.

In case that they didn't fix it, no problem, as I'm not a woman, but I have (and use) a sewing machine ;) , and I think that I'd be able to modify it to work properly :P

I'm really happy that I purchased the sewing machine, as I've used ir for lots of mini-projects. Thanks again for the time and effort taken to post the very detailed "how to", as it's really helpful :D

Yes, those sewing machines are nice to have :-)
Thanks for your comments.

BTW, I was confused earlier.
I'm pretty sure they haven't fixed the tab problem yet.

I think that you're correct, as I have just visited Tucano Urbano's website, and they only list a model for the PCX (R082), which they indicate that fits:
PCX 125-150 (from 2014)
http://www.tucanourbano.com/es/cubrepie ... -9103.html

But they show in the picture the old model PCX, so I'm pretty sure that they didn't have modified it to fit the new model :(

Thanks again! ;)

I have a R082 pcx 2016 model fitted the leg covers on but it doesn't completely cover the seat on the back as R082 was made for the earlier models of the pcx.
I have made an mod to over come this though.

yes I sew those 3 parts to the back of the R082.
This elastic band thing hooks under the seat where the seat lock is.
It took me 10 minuets to complete the job.
