Has anyone had their Forza seat fixed under warranty?

Post by pullin_gs »

Has anyone had their Forza seat fixed under warranty because it won't stay up?
Did it work well after it was fixed? Or did things get hosed up worse by Honda when they took things apart?

Mine used to fall down but I think corrosion and dirt after 3 years has made it so that it now mostly stays up.

Weather turns cold, seat won't stay up. I don't think Honda understands colder temps. I do not believe that they have a different part, so I can't see how a factory fix is going to work. The support is just not sufficient below 60 F.

In Scotland the seat never stayed up for me from new...at the start it "tried" to but just never made it..it doesnt even try any more...so just learned to live with it...dont believe a replacement fitment would work any better due to the temperature thing so never bothered with warranty... While irritating its not a big issue for me..stick technology works.

Mine stays up 99.9% of the time, it only drops if there's a strong wind.
I've found that the key is pulling it right open as if it is extended beyond its limits then let it settle then release your hold.
Sounds complex but is really straightforward and second nature after a while.

It only stays open at the absolute top of the travel, unless you open it right up it will not stay open.

Well I'll be giving THAT a try! I really like my Forza, but the seat issue really takes the shine off an otherwise nice machine. I guess I'm easily annoyed.

Good morning. The first opener dumper, 83590-K04-931, had a force of 500N. The new one, 83590-K04-932, has a force of 720N. How that's not a fix gentlemen? But, on the other hand, i was doing what GN2 proposed since day two (on the first i was extra careful). Common sense. Saddle is closing only when parked on the side stand (double force for the opener dumper since is on the left), uphill and with head wind.

thanks for the tip...but just tried it again and it doesnt work on mine. Mine has just given up the ghost and not even trying to work now...out of warranty so it will just have to be the stick!!...however as it's the only complaint have for my Forza I can live with it...not much to complain about.

My seat damper was replaced under warranty, and my experience matches that of others here. The new one still doesn't hold the seat up when it is cold out.

I installed a marine hatch spring to hold the thing up:

nearly 3/4 million miles logged
now just commuting instead of touring

I would like to see a picture of how you did that. Did you just use very short sheet metal screws into the plastic?

Yep, short pan head screws was all I used.

I will try to remember to post pix when I get the beast back.

I actually got the bike back on Tuesday, but it was dark when I got home, so no pictures that day. Wednesday after work I snapped a couple of cell phone pix, but haven't had the time to edit them to the board's maximum size until tonight. (OK, I might have had time last night, but we went to a Bob Dylan concert instead.)

This is not a perfect fix. In cold temps, I have to open the seat all the way so that the spring straightens out. This means that I have to reach down there to the front end of the seat and tap the spring to bend it before I can close the seat. If I don't find a different solution, I will probably move the spring to the other side of the seat so that when I go to tap it we are both on the same side of the scooter. I'll still have the awkward reach, but at least I won't have to reach across under the seat to do it.

So, if you decide to try this yourself, consider putting the hatch spring on the right side instead of on the left side like I did.

But I'd still prefer to find a different fix. So if anyone out there has a good one....

Be that as it may, here are a couple of pix of the current install.

Excellent DIY fix. I think I may try this.

OK, among the to-do list items I took care of yesterday was moving the hatch spring over to the other side. Pulling it off of where it was, drilling pilot holes, and installing it where it is now was a five minute job. I am much, much happier with the thing on the right side of the bike. The only times this will be less convenient are when I'm hanging a helmet off the left side (which is very infrequent; the helmet normally goes into the Maxia box on back).

I can't really take credit for the idea. I stole it from one of the other list members. My failing memory tells me that he is Greek or Cypriot, but that may be wrong. He used one of the boat hatch hold-opens that is made of two bars of metal that fold. I thought back to my own sailing days and ordered the spring version, which I figured would be less likely to get bound up with all the various bits & bobs of fabric I have down under the fore end of the seat.

First installation took me a bit longer as well, but moving it was quick, since I already knew what I was about.

Happy New Year your own self; enjoy a dram and toast the health of whoever it was who came up with the idea in the first place. Mine will be Oban.

Pax et bonum,
Michael

Plus 1 on the great fix -- Thanks, Michael. I had gotten so used to my seat not staying up that now I'm surprised every time when it doesn't just fall down. If I don't reach under there and do the spring, it's not goin' anywhere.

Good one!
