Anyone feel like explaining this?

Post by ese12105 »

I've seen this on Webike, and someone on clubpcx has bought it. Anyone feel like explaining it to me? I think I have an idea, but would like more details. Seems like a pretty cheap upgrade for possible top end increase.

Here's the link. http://japan.webike.net/products/20123579.html

By changing the final drive gear, it changes the RPM : power ratio outputted at the axle. Basically, you lose a bit of power for a bit higher of an RPM. Even though it says you won't lose acceleration, you probably will still lose some.

Ok final drive gear, wasn't sure exactly which gear. And i idi think it a bir strange that the say no losses only gain. That's usually pretty impossible. And by the way, i am loving this site on my phone! Looks much better on it than clubpcx for some reasob... lol

I need to adjust the colors some, these colors hurt my face. But yeah, the site is much more mobile-compatible than ClubPCX. It's also more well-suited for larger screens, since the window is scalable instead of static. ;)

Instead of replacing the final drive gear, you could also modify the pulley spacer between the two driven faces of one of the variator pulleys. This would allow the belt to ride more narrowly on the variator, having the same effect as a final drive gear. I still have to experiment with it on my bike, but if I get results, I'll be sure to post a how-to.

I agree about the larger screen thing. Much better on my 24" monitor. Can you use this forum on tapatalk though? I found tapatalk very good on my iphone for the other forum.
One more thing, will this site actually shrink oversized pictures or just cut them off like the old forum did?
It needs to be made pretty google accessible aswell, but i have no idea how you would go about doing that. Although im sure you do.

I'll see what I can do about tapatalk. As for scaling pictures, the site won't adjust pictures, because the width of the forum is variable with the width of the window. If the picture won't fit, the page should scroll horizontally. The current maximum image width is 1024, which should be sufficiently huge. Autoscaling is insaaaaanely difficult and would basically blow up the server I'm on with image scaling operations... As for google accessability, I'll get there. I can do SEO, so with time, we'll rank as one of the first results on Google. After one day, we're already on page 4 for "honda pcx forum," and have risen up the page since this morning. Almost to page 3. :P

I created a thread to talk more about improvements to the site to help keep everything consolidated here: http://hondapcx.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=32

Back on topic, here's the part I was talking about cutting down for an increased speed:

The part number 3, which is known as the boss, controls the distance between 2 and 4, the two drive faces. By making it a bit shorter, the belt will be able to ride up higher on 2 and 4, giving more top speed. The part is only $4 on http://www.mrcycles.com, so I might tear the scooter apart this weekend and tinker with it if I get bored. :)

Looking forward to seeing it in action dave! Thanks for taking the plunge. If I could get another 5mph, I could do a 2 mile stretch of freeway that would shave 3 miles off my commute =) I just wanna make sure I can go the speed limit first =)

Oh that's pretty sweet! And a potentially cheap mod or replacement if screwed up lol. Just gotta make sure not to cut it too short... And lose the belt :-)
