Is something wrong with my 2011 pcx

Bought used with a little over 4k on the clock. The bike seems to run perfect except it will only reach 57 mph then all acceleration stops just levels out and the engine doesn't sound like it's hitting the rev limiter (I have a Ninja 250 and I know what hitting the rev limiter feels like) also gas mileage is only 76 mpg my ninja has beat that a few times. I don't do full throttle starts my commute is 2 miles 55 mph road 4 miles 35 mph road. I'm reading of many folks getting 80+ mpg and 62 mph top speed. Did I by a lemon or are these numbers in normal range? Other wise I like the bike it's a fun change up from my Ninja and the Vulcan 500. Any input about these indications appreciated.
Thanks

Is the 2011 still using a carb? I would start cleaning that first and maybe change the plug as well..

the limiter shouldnt activate yet at that speed IMO..

The PCX has been updated over the years, so it might just be that your PCX is one of the slower ones. I believe yours is the 125cc PCX and non ESP model, which means you have less power.
Our scoots are drag limited, not enough power to overcome the wind.
If you wan't to experience the rev limiter then go down a long and steep down hill road.

The 2011 PCX 125 wasn't the fastest PCX but it had the ability to be. The individual who started this forum had one that he put a big bore kit in and it turned into a 170cc rocket.

I don't know where you are located, since you didn't include your location, but if you just want your PCX 125 to run at normal speeds, change the belt. Then put some fuel stabilizer in the gas, and ride.

Maybe someone has changed the rollers (or whatever you call those weight thingies)

DAB may be right. Until you take the cover off you wont know if everything is OK in there. It is easy enough to change rollers, belts and variators. It is just as easy for these items to wear out. Same applies to the spark plug. Change what you can and see how it runs after that.
Also, if your commute is only 6 miles total the engine isn't even warmed up by the time you reach your destination. That makes a difference in all sorts of ways.

I have a 2011 125 also and it typically does 120mpg (UK gallons) and reads 65mph on the Speedo. My commute is 6 minutes,as at 30-40mph.

Worth checking the air filter to see if it's clogged and the brakes aren't binding.

Thanks for the reply. Just checked the air filter it didn't look that dirty but looked and smelled oily. Funny there was no oil in the air box or on the wire screen on the back of the filter. Looks to be a stock filter with Thai writing on it. Thinking nothing to loose I rinsed it back to front with carb cleaner and gently blew it out the same with air. Now it want even start withe the filter installed. it will start with it removed. So I guess the filter was going bad and I finished it off. Anyone ever used this filter

Parts for your bike are fairly inexpensive. Many of us use partzilla.com for replacement parts of all sorts. Here is a link to the air cleaner. It is easy enough to find other parts at this site as well, and they are much cheaper than the Honda dealers.

...and a link to the belt. Get a Service Manual and you can do most of the maintenance yourself. There is a pdf version on this forum, somewhere. Ask, and it will be supplied.

Thanks Mel46 I just pulled the trigger on the one on Amazon before I saw you post, it was cheaper (the bastards LOL). Anyway the story continues. I put the filter out in the sun till the smell of carb cleaner was mostly gone, put it on and she fired right up. Took it for a test ride but no luv, insteed of 57 not top end is 54. This to me point to the filter so I went ahead and ordered the one I had up on Amazon. It should be hear Tuesday and we shall see.

Keep in mind that most part distributors do have a shipping charge, so always compare part cost plus shipping costs. That air filter you bought on Amazon may actually be cheaper there than on Partzilla.

I just replaced my stock filter with K&N filter no need to replace again. Just wash and clean.

I always check my friend. It was $10.60 with shipping from Power Sports Super Store thru Amazon. Same filter with shipping $13.80 from Partzilla. Quality remains to be seen but I've never had to return anything to that store. I like Partzilla too, sometimes they have things you can't find anywhere else.

Not a fan of K&N to much $ I like out with the old in with new no washing, oiling and that dreck so did you get any performance increase?

Listen carefully at 57 mph. It is hitting the rev limiter. (The limiter is very subtle.) My 2011 has had the exact same problem since it was new. It will not go faster than 57 mph, period. I've read that early PCXs had a 9,200 rpm rev limiter instead of the later 9,600 rpm limiter, which might account for the speed difference. I've wondered if a batch of 2011s had a too narrow belt installed. (I'll find out this year because the belt is due for replacement at 12,000 miles.) As far as mileage goes, if you are running at full throttle on the rev limiter your mileage will suck. It won't go faster no matter how hard you twist the throttle. I run light throttle 40 to 45 mpg and consistantly get 100 to 104 mpg.

I'm considering fixing my top speed problem by trading it in for a 2018 PCX 150.

Trading up to a 150cc model will definitely fix one problem. The only way to make a 125cc model go as fast or faster than the 150cc model is to install a big bore kit (BBK), which should raise it to 170cc, but then you have to change some other parts in order to make it run smoother. Others have done it, so it can be done.
But then, if you had a 150cc model you could put a BBK in it as well. It all depends on where you want to stop when improving your PCX.
