Am I The only one...

Whose wife believes that I should be able to read her mind??

Example today...
Me: Back from the dentist. What do you want me to do with the receipt?
Her: put it in the folder.
Me: Which folder?
Her: Your folder.
Me: Medical expenses, or do you have a folder for Dental?
Her (exasperated): Just put it in the file!
Me: Which file?
Her (still exasperated): YOUR file!
Me: Where is the file?
Her: In my desk, with all the other file folders!

At this point I just give up and start looking through the files in her desk.

Her: What are you doing?
Me: Looking for the file.
Her: Just give it to me. Do I have to do EVERYTHING myself!?

I give her the receipt and walk away, still not knowing where the receipt goes.

By the way, every file is my file, though I have no input into what goes where.
When we were first married I set up a budget, determined who could get paid when, and set up a savings account for us. Since she had no input she was not frugal with the money, so after about 5 years I decided that she needed to get involved with the budget so She could feel my frustration. She has clamped onto that task now and guards it closely, even though she is lousy with numbers, and saving anything is close to impossible. Just don't tell her she is lousy at anything. She hates criticism.

I have that conversation nearly every day. My wife is convinced that if she thinks something then I automatically know what she is thinking. Most times I have no idea what it is, but it makes for interesting conversation, particularly if I pretend it's something wildly different to what she most likely is thinking.

I just made my own head hurt. :? :? :?

According to my wife five and five and five are all fives so the answer has to be five.

Women are great but they don't inhabit the same reality as normal people.

As long as she isn't interested in reading it, I can write it. I learned a long time ago that it is useless to argue with her. I will never win, so why put out the effort? If she says the sky is green, I don't say a thing. I learned a lot from experience. Unless you don't mind being single, don't argue with a woman, ever. If you love money, don't get married. If you love peace and quiet, don't get married. If you love your freedom, .... You get the picture. In my case, I don't mind because I like the company. We do a lot of things together, and like the same things, so I have to be willing to give up all control of my life, or the feeling of being in control. It is the price you pay for the company you keep.
The frustration comes when I want to spend my hard earned money. I have to ask permission to spend $5, but she will spend $40 without blinking....but I think every married male has that same problem. You learn to live with it.

That is why I love working on my bike, down in the basement, alone, in my domain.

Happy New Year. . .oh wait a minute. . .well. . .Happy New Year anyways!

Spencer. . .pass us that bottle will ya?

Tull. . .yeah.

Back to the subject. . ..

I worked a lot of retail before I started my regular career work.

I remember that the wives often did all the talking at the counter and the husbands stood back hanging onto to the carriage with white knuckles and a vacant stare.

It gave me cause for concern. Were they war veterans I thought? Did they have a deficiency in social skills? Did the wives do all the talking because if the husbands had a go they would be down right mean and pissed? Wasn't sure. But the more I thought about it the more it made me think that the wives just wore them down over time. They used to be able to play "Kick the Can" and have a ball in life at one time but after they got married they lost their zest for life and just played it out by the numbers. Get up, eat, go to work. . .eat in the middle. . .work until closing. . .go home. . .eat. . .crap. . .try to sleep. . .it all starts over again. And the pile of bills is relentless and a lot of it is doctor bills and not theirs. The kids needed dental work, the wife had thyroid issues, and then there was that issue with the dog. And so it goes. . .foreeeeeeefffinnnnngggggevvvverrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrand eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeevvvvvvvvvvvvvveeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. . ..

OOoooppppssss. . .sorry, I do digress often.

I'm on my own. Like it. . .a lot. Divorced twice. Got the house and kid both times. No hard feelings. Shall I press my luck on number 3???? Don't think so. I would date. . .but marry again. . .highly doubtful. But I could get stupid and lose my mind. . .it's happened before. 8)

There are no perfect women. If you spend your life looking for one, you will spend your life being disappointed.

When i was a teen i realized that every guy was after the prettiest girl. That left a lot of girls who were all looking for the best looking guy. That was a lot of disappointment, and a lot of miserable teens. Just be happy with who you are and who likes you.

Easyrider, in answer to your question....all of the above. We have 6 kids...all grown now. Youngest daughter just had her first child. Youngest son is about to be a father for the first time. Oldest daughter has 6 boys, 4 of which are now adults. Counting the child that is about to come, we have 10 grandkids.

Of course, with kids come bodily changes, so forget trophy wife any more. She also had some major health problems due to reactions to medications, so neither of us is a Spring Chicken any more.

Somehow we made it through all of the kids growing up and all the medical problems, together. It must be growing old that is changing us.
