Revving on center stand, due to frequent slow speed.

Sorry for the noob question.
I have had my PCX 150 2016 for a while now and ridden on a daily basis. Often times I normally use it for really short rides, like 3-7 mins. On average the speed is between 25-35 km/h. Occasionally I speed up to 40-50 km, for short times.

So, the point is, I ride PCX at an average speed of 25-35 km, frequent short rides' and very less/no WOT.

> is this speed bad for the scooter/ engine in the long run?
> Is revving on the center stand bad for the engine? or should I do that occasionally in this case?

You guys may wonder why so frequent short rides!...this is why.

So, there are two islands but no Bridge? That might present a problem. Looks like a 49cc scooter would be all that would be needed there. Still, going on what you are saying, why not take it for a longer ride, just for the heck of it. Go in circles. Go criss-cross. You won't be able to get up to wot no matter where you go on that island. I am not sure if revving it to wot on the center stand will be good for it though. It produces quite a lot of vibration and may jump off of the center stand. I wonder how it would work out if it could be put on a secure stand with a resistance wheel or belt under It? Going wot with no resistance is not really good for it. I don't know if you have seen what bicyclists do when they can't ride outside, but they have a stand that has resistance against the rear wheel. Try to find something like that for it.

I don't think you will have to worry. The Honda motor is very well made and the type of your driving is probably what most PCX will experience . It is primarily designed for an urban commuter type environment. If it were me however, I would make sure it reaches its operating temperature before shutting down. This should only take a few minutes . This would be conducive to burning off some of the carbon that may build up on cold starts. You might check your plug more frequently , but never race it up without a load.

I was thinking "WOT + a ramp" ... :)

I wouldn't be concerned at all - so long as condensation isn't building up in the oil and not having a chance to boil off. Running it on the centre stand would be more likely to damage it I would think as it's not putting a load on it.

Can't you just peel out WOT at every light or stop sign you hit? It won't do much for your mileage, but it sure doesn't look like you need to worry about that aspect of PCXing.

Seriously, though - it warms up pretty quickly. I have no concerns about my 3.5 mile ride to work.

Do you ride on both islands? Ferries between them? Looks stunningly beautiful.

Actually, 26 ring-shaped atolls, which are made up of 1192 coral islands. The pictures above represent only 2 of the 1192 islands. The first one is a random island from an atoll, the second one is the capital city of Maldives, Male'.
Sea/air transport is the main mode of transport among islands and yes no bridges.

If its me ill just buy a bicycle. LoL

But seriously, dont sweat it. Your pcx will be fine. No need for wot.

Change your oil more often than the reco interval. They say frequent on and off without the oil reaching hotter temps ruin the oil faster. Not sure though

Ps. I would love to travel there..nice place..

You guys are welcome here.
Oil changed at 1000km, 2500km, now at 46xx km. waiting until it reach 6000km.
And yes I ride on sand roads, which turns muddy during rain and dusty during all other days.

Running it on the stand will be of no benefit.
You're just wasting fuel.

This is a story of a man who has logged 12,000 miles on his 1985 Honda Elite 150 scooter, which may not sound so unusual but this man is a special needs and has logged every mile on his father's drive way, as he does not have a drivers licence.

The local Honda dealership offered him the opportunity to drive his scooter on a close track, so it was the first time the scooter ever exceed a few MPH

Super good storey, very touching

Very interesting post. GN is right you need a load.

What's the worst that can happen from a breakin period on a motor in severely restricted area? Nothing, if you accelerate and engine brake according to popular procedure (does not require great speed). On a scooter this is default behavior and requires no thought whereas on a clutch bike you should consciously perform this action during breakin.

What's the worst that can happen from lack or wide open throttle now and then on a scooter clutch? Glazing on the shoes and shuddering on take off resulting in service or replacement of the clutch shoes some day in the future. This is no big deal and you can do it yourself. Beautiful island, I would have boats because that would be a sport bike purgatory.

The question actually popped up when I came across a related thread on reddit ( link here https://www.reddit.com/r/motorcycles/co ... engine_to/).

Looking forward to learn to maintain the bike on my own , with the help from this forum. I have learnt a lot from reading the posts in here.

Point of order Mr Chairman! :D

I'm not getting what you're meaning here Homie - clutch is fully engaged by 10MPH - long before WOT. I would have thought that clutch glazing would only be a problem if they're having to "duck walk" the bike for long periods?

Opps sorry I didn't read the whole thread  Hey, have you ever done this on concrete? The bike will start crawling away... very unnerving ;)

Asalammu alaikum Suzxee.

I spent a couple of years in Male' and Vilufushi and understand your concern. From memory Male' has about the most people per sq.km of any place (I used to jog around the entire island each morning, took about 40 mins. :)

I would not be concerned. Maybe try revving sometimes when you have the chance but these engines are so well engineered they should take a lot more abuse than the average rider could give.

Suggest check your spark plug sometimes. The colour will tell you how the engine is running.

Do you fish much ? I miss the reefs and Trevally.

Love the pool at Hulehule' too.

:)
