Rain Repellant for Windscreen and Visor

Post by PaCoX »

It's beginning to drizzle on me in the morning as I commute my 15 minutes to work on city streets. Water is accumulating on my National Cycle Windscreen and my Transitions visor on my helmet.

Any recommendations for products that help bead and move the water off? I've read that Rain X might be a viable option.

Thanks,
Ed

I am not sure about Rain-X. I have heard various reports about using it on Plexiglas. I use Novus #1. It is also good for cleaning the plastics on the bike.

Mel46, does the Novus #1 help with visibility when it's raining? Looks like it's billed primarily as a cleaner.

It puts a coating on the windshield and makes it slick. After I use it I can throw a microfiber cloth on the windshield and it slides right off.
If you want to go with Rain-X then you MUST go with the version specifically made for plastic, like the one below.

Rain-X was all the rage for a while, but it streaks after a time. The latest tech is a silica infused products like Carpro RELOAD, put it on like Windex. Works for about three months. Use it on the whole bike, dirt just flies off. This amount will last you 5 years:

The Carpro RELOAD looks promising. The guy in the video who did the repeated washing was pretty convincing. Definitely wasn't in California considering how much water he was using.

I've been using it for 6 months on everything. most of the guys on my car forums are using it too. It just works and is super simple to apply. If you can Windex a window , you can use reload......

Car wax is all you need. Don't pay extra for some specialized product when the mass market stuff works so well. ...especially since you only get rain there about twice a year. ;-D

Thanks for the info.
I'll give Reload a try. My issue is fog....building to heavy wetness on visor. Anything that will bead it off more quickly would be good.

I use Plexus and it is great - available on Amazon and many other places. Was originally developed for Plexiglas military fighter jet canopies. Spray it on clean windshield in a light white fog, just buff it off with a clean microfiber towel (NO paper towel). Optical clarity to unscratched Plexiglas or Lexan, fog resistance, and water beading. Works great on plastic body panels too as long as they are clean first - this stuff IS NOT a cleaner.

fwiw I don't use the Plexus to remove the bugs I use microfiber cloth with copious amount of warm water. Then dry it and apply the Plexus. It cost too much to be flooding the surface with it to soften bug carcasses.
