How many of you actually RIDE in the RAIN?

Post by grndslm »

I'm to afraid water will get inside the plastics and everything will start to corrode and rust.

But then again, if it's only sprinkling or drizzling I should just live life on the scooter at all costs? Life's too short not to scoot, right?

Rains not a problem. Keep it clean and you won't have any problems. We get salt on the roads in the winter and that's what causes the issues. The alloy parts get corroded quickly. A good coating of ACF-50 does the trick in keeping it in tip top condition.

I ride in the rain twice a month. I have a slicker underneath the seat, only change I make is I ride completely vertical, no leaning .....I slow way down anytime I'm not going straight.....wipe the bike down when I get home.

I take the scooter with ABS (SW) when it rains. Regarding the rain itself, I wouldn't worry about water damage riding a Honda that's in good shape--but a British bike of a certain vintage, that's another story. :)

No way I'd want to ride in the rain! When I ride, and I sense a drop of rain, I quickly find any kind of shelter. Then I'd just sit and wait there till it is nice and dry again..

..so it never rains when you ride there?

No. If it starts raining while I'm out I take a uturn and head home. Not happy about it, but it's the right move for me.
Traffic is in abundance here, add to that rain and slick roads (you can see the oil and grime and remnants of sand, etc never cleaned up). I'm out to enjoy the ride not fight the weather and the vehicles that might kill me.
You know the saying...."Live to Ride, Ride to Live"

I try not to when the flood rains hit the city. Yesterday it was coming down at a rate of something like 10cm (4") per hour, causing major floods. :o

Corrosion is not the problem, just wash your scoot once the weather improves and Mr. Sun is out again. It is the poor visibility and danger that comes with heavy rain that concerns me the most. Iv'e ridden heavy rains though, and it is not fun.

I always apply anti-corrosion spray to my PCX's metal parts. I'm not sure if it's really helping, but it's giving me peace of mind so there you go..

Why are we all just sitting there Kramer... was there a manatee sighting? Are we crossing one at a time? Is someone's scoot laying at the bottom? I don't know how you keep from going postal over there sir. When do you get back to the states? Monsoon's would be the time I would take a vacation.

OP is concerned that his scooter will suffer if it gets rained on.
I received a response to this question from a scooter rider in the Philippines. He commutes to work daily with his wife on their Kymco scooter. He noted that they average 22-24 typhoons a year....and states that his scooter has never let them down. "They are made by Asians, and many Asians depend on them and ride them in typically wet Asian weather every day!"

I tell ya, They have No Fear, No Fear at all!

Dinner Conversation: "Any news to share today hun?" "Nah nothing, same ol same ol. Rode through flooded bumpy waters, stopped...a lot, cooled off, texted, rode some more, got a few scratches, a ding here, a ding there that's all." "Turned out to be a good ride in overall, only forty bikes down under, traffic moved once they surfaced."
"Wait! Fish again?" (laugh)

(Uh fish, that was Not pointed at you, it's what's for dinner. Cheers!)

and she texts about her day ;)

I'm this guy if that happens... fu it!
