Life of my baby

Post by Dragon_uk »

So I've decided to do a little write up,
it is actually my 4th PCX, first being 2012 white (got it 2nd hand) that I've sold to my mate, 2nd was 2013 red (brand new from dealer) that I've sold to my father in law, 3rd was 2014 also red (also brand new from dealer) that I've sold to a stranger and now I'm on no. 4 got it from my friend after he had a small accident and moved on new SV650. It's white and I'm putting a lot of love into it.
Well it came to me with 7084miles on the clock, medium GIVI screen, GIVI mono-lock top box in white to match bike and Tukano Urbano apron. My first addition was my Tucano Urbano muffs that I've kept when sold my 2014 one.
Lucky enough my mate got City Grip on rear few weeks before accident and his IRC at the front was on its way out but I've swapped wheels with my 2014 before I've sold it and that was also only few weeks old.
pretty much 4 weeks later I was doing 7.5k service, 10w40 castrol semi-synthetic oil, oil filter cleaned, air filter replaced, spark plug also replaced, valves checked and within spec. Got all parts from main dealer but I've done all the work mysels.
BTW if anyone would like I have made myself a proper looking Honda health check and service inspection paperwork. Just print out and make yourself look and feel like a pro when doing service on your own scooter.
Few hundred miles into owning her clutch bearings started making noise so I've ordered new parts from main dealer and got spare clutch ready for a straight swap soon.
Normal (very dynamic) ride into central London and I was only getting 96-98MPG but now decided to take it a bit easier and bike comes back reporting 114MPG.
To be continued...

The service check sheet sounds great, any chance you can make it available on the forum?

Thanks!

Looking forward to your continuation.
Thank you Dragon for your update and for being a dedicated owner and rider of not one, but four PCX's. Cheers 8) It's very kind of you to offer up your health ck/svc paperwork, I'm betting it will be appreciated by those that "tool" around and those that want to....follow "a plan." Being your own bike mechanic certainly has its "aha!" moments, - that's a feel good thing!

It's always nice to be able to tick all the boxes when doing an inspection or a service on your own scooter. I hope you PCX lovers will find it handy.
Also would be nice if someone could pm me with regards to garage manual (not the standard user manual that comes with bike) as really could to with one. Pdf would be ideal.
Thanks in advance

Yes it is Tucano Urbano. It works great although I must say mk1 & 2 used to fit better. I'm getting a bit more draft on my legs but nothing major, I was still riding her in -5C.

Lights are just amazing. £4 for set of two or even cheaper if you can wait month when ordering from China. I've noticed a lot of cars giving way as it simply makes my scooter look like a BIG bike.

Good point!

Might is right as they say. . . ;)

I put auxiliary lamps on my Suzuki Bandit (SAENG/TA Night-Cutters) and they not only improve the night time viewing range and intensity but also, as you imply, make you more visible and apparent. I run them day or night and I've got them aimed so they don't blind oncoming drivers. They offer different types of mounts so when I get my PCX I'm going to have to take a good look at it to see if there would be a suitable mounting surface on it. Or, I'll have to consider something else. On my Bandit I mounted them to my turn signal stalks. No problems after many years of service. That being said the PCX electrical system would have to be able to handle the load as well. LEDs draw a lot less juice. It will be an interesting aftermarket consideration for later on. . .

Here's a link to their site. . . https://www.saeng.com/home.php

This is how I installed the "Night-Cutters" on my Bandit. It doesn't look like I'm going to be able to do the same thing on a new PCX. That being said I'll try to figure out if one of the other installation options would work. . .or do a little skill and drill. As I've said before I'm going to have to make sure the electrical system can handle it before I do anything. Was your LED installation a complicated ordeal? Separate on/off switches for them?

I run mine hard wired onto side lights so so seperate switches. I prefer them on all the time. This only draw 3W per light or maybe even per pair as I can't remember now.
You might have a problem trying to put normal halogen lights on new PCX electrical system, I can't see it running them.
But let me know if it does as would be handy to know.
