Have not posted in a while but had to chime in on this one. Hope your feeling better and respects for getting back out there! I too was rear ended at of all places a railroad crossing, lights, bells, gates came down, I slowed to a stop and WHAM! the moron behind me was texting ( witnesses ! ) luckily I was not close enough to go through the gate. Bike took the worst of it , I landed flat on my back on his hood ( helmet and back pad in jacket saved me from injury ! ) so he gets out and starts yelling at ME about stopping so suddenly? Not a proud moment but I put him on his ass ! Guess Homie has to add me to the list too! Distracted driving is an epidemic, killing more people every year. Put the damn phones down and Drive! Nothing is that important!

He was texting whilst riding a donkey? I think the warning signs were there and you should avoided like the plague.

The penalties are quite high for texting whilst driving in the uk. Here is an extract from a uk law website.

In 2007, the Crown Prosecution Service announced that where a driver is charged with texting whilst driving, it will generally seek to prosecute the driver for dangerous driving, which is a much more serious offence.

If convicted on a charge of dangerous driving, a driver can be imprisoned for up to 2 years, fined an unlimited amount, and banned from driving for at least a year. If the driver causes death by dangerous driving, he can be imprisoned for up to 14 years and will be banned from driving for at least 2 years.

Although most motoring offences are tried in Magistrates’ Court – which has jurisdiction to impose a maximum prison sentence of 6 months – cases can be transferred to Crown Court for sentencing if the Court believes that a longer term of imprisonment is warranted.

Stay off the phones when driving is the best only choice really.

$4500 dollars and a small ban! The law is crazy all over the world. 2nd offence she should have been banned for life and fined heavily, 3rd should have been a long stay in prison. Then she would not have been on the road to break this persons back.

This is an old thread, but we see these type pop up regularly and with a bunch of new members it's good to have a reminder...I've been riding for years and it's good to have a reminder to leave an escape path and check the mirrors!

Found this tail light flasher on Amazon some time back and have not yet installed:
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0036R ... X5CE&psc=1
Works best with LED bulbs, not so good with incandescent. I just found the wiring diagram for the tail light I the chopper, will read the service manual for the PCX and stick one in there also.

I'm wondering if the color of our riding jackets have been found to statistically reduce the number of collisions.

I have a red Joe Rocket jacket and would never have thought of getting a yellow one, but as I get older I care less about appearance and more about safety. Has color been proven to make a difference?

^^^^ Another note: I wear Gerbing brand outerwear--it has highly reflective strips for greater visibility.

Many bicycle clothes have the same type of stripes for high visibility and are far less expensive, mainly due to the lack of armor and functionality (motorcyclists tend to carry a lot of "stuff," bicyclists tend to not carry anything more than sweat).

I know this is a Forza thread but I thought I might add something to the words of wisdom. I ride with a yellow hi-viz Tourmaster jacket. I know people see me because I watch their heads turn as I approach. I also installed a light called a 'Knight Riderz' sequential led light bar on the license plate frame. It moves back and forth while I am riding, but when I squeeze the brake lever the light flashes for 5 seconds before going on steady.
https://www.customdynamics.com/category ... ght-riderz
My belief is the more light in the rear, the better to be seen, especially when stopping. I also have a LED light string that I glued around the tailbox rack. It lights up when I press the brake lever also. Both assemblies are easy to install. Most of the Honda scooters have their wiring bundle along the right rear frame of the bike. There is a plug there that can be tapped into. If you have a wiring diagram you can determine the correct color of the wires. The 3 wires will be the ground (usually green), the hot wire (usually brown), and the run wire (yellow-green). The run wire is the always on light wire. The hot wire is for stopping, which makes the stop light bright.
If you are afraid to work on your bike then have a shop do it. It took me an hour when I first installed mine. Then when I installed it on my wife's bike it took me 30 minutes. The more you practice taking your bike apart the easier it becomes.

I hope this helped some. There are too many bikes being hit from behind because of lack of visibility of their rear end. Anything that will help could be what saves your life.

So I just noticed that it is in fact a pcx thread, so the above comments should be relevant. Unfortunately, no matter what you have on your bike, if a driver comes up on your rear who is engrossed in texting, I don't think anything will help. That lady in Australia should have had her license pulled forever on the third conviction. It reminds me so much of drunk drivers. They have no concern for anyone else, and thus they become a danger to everyone else.

We can't run the Knight Riderz in Wisconsin as some police feel that's stepping in their territory...however it did become legal in 2017 for motorcycles to run underglow lights (except for blue and--get this--red. Yeah, red, like the tail light. Whatever...) so I'm working on a rather large "puddle" for the scooter and chopper. The PCX is really thin and hard to see at night from behind except for that blinding tail light.

Note I think the PCX is laid out really well, it's just "small" (which is part of why we love it) and "hard to see" in some respects. The wall-style-headlight makes an impression, day or night...

I got a deal on a Vololight this summer, and installed one on both scoots. It is an accelerometer-driven flashing light, so it responds to braking and also slowing down when you really get off throttle (on a motorcycle, it would detect downshifts). Since it is only blinking when something you are slowing down, maybe your local law would have less of a problem with it. There are also brake light modulators that flash a few times when you hit the lever, then go solid.

I don't know if it helps or not, but my wife says it is pretty noticeable when she follows me for some reason.

https://vololights.com/

Dead easy to install - you just need to tie into the license plate light.
On my scoot, getting there is WAY more than half the fun!

Please paste this address into a new tab and add yourself to the map: https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1NlP7xk7KMdJReQnm-iDhldFBdpQ&ll=4.995760578398276%2C0&z=2
but please, don't delete anybody, no matter how badly they deserve deleting :)

More than once I have seen people in the process of pulling out of a side street (that could have done it without hitting me) suddenly halt in their tracks and let me pass by more often than not when I'm wearing my Hi-Viz vest. Also I'm realizing that wearing it over a sweatshirt in cooler weather provides a little more wind resistance and blocks the air for a more comfortable ride. That being said during the warm weather months it wasn't an issue or problem. Kind of a win win situation I guess. 8)

There are utility trucks and surgery trucks in our area that have small strobe lights that flash when turned on. I installed some on my PCX but I have an on/off switch so that I can control them. I turn them on when riding at night. If those strobe lights are legal in your area, why not install some?
Also, on the Knight Rider light, there is a way to disable the constant back and forth light and only use the 5 second flashing, then steady on feature.

George - I just ordered one of these. How did you tie into the license plate light? Did you remove the grab rail plastic cover to get at the wires? Just want to find the best way to keep the wires hidden. :)

Thanks!
