I’ve been looking at getting a scooter for my 20 mile commute to work. I was wondering if 125cc would be sufficient. I would be taking streets since I’m not comfortable riding on the freeway. I just passed the M1 written exam, so I’m really new to riding. I did ride Honda elite 80 back in high school. Sorry, don’t want to make this long and turn you away, so I’ll get to it…
Since I’m new, it’s my first scooter (not sure if I’ll like it) I was thinking of getting a used PCX and save some money to see if it’s for me. Is $2,500 a good deal for one with 900miles and two helmets?
Or
Should I wait till the 150cc gets here? I really think I would need the 150cc for my commute. I was looking at my speed on my way home yesterday. I did an average of 48mph, but did need to go up to 55-60mph from time to time. (I would be taking Arrow Hwy)
I have so many other questions, but this should do it for now.

If you're not going to do any freeway and it's 20 miles, then by all means get a PCX 125. I commute 2x23 miles every day, with a large stretch at ~55mph. I'm not sure about the prices in the USA, but to me $2500 sounds about right. Don't take the helmets though if they don't fit perfectly! A helmet that doesn't fit 100% is a pretty useless helmet.

Thats a GREAT deal on a used PCX. The cheapest I have heard anyone getting one in the Los angeles area was around $4,500. I paid even more...

Thanks guys. I'm going to go down to my local dealer to see what they can do for me on a new one, and ask about the 150. I really just want to seat on one to see how it feels. I really wanted a Vespa, but way to much money, for my first scoot.

$2500 sounds good, I bet you could talk him down to $2300.

You don't want to reuse a used helmet, get a new one, and go to a motorcycle shop and have them help you fit it. It is ESSENTIAL that the helmet fits your head perfectly. Once a helmet has been used by someone for awhile, it gets molded to the size and shape of their head. Without fitting a new helmet and breaking it in yourself, you lose much of the protection a helmet offers.

The PCX sounds perfect for your usage scenario, your commute sounds nearly identical to mine (albeit slightly longer).

You could wait for the 150, it'll probably top out at 70-75mph, which will give you a bit more freedom. It will probably come at a cost of lower mpg though. It's your call, the 150 will be nearly identical to the 125.

While I was checking out, setting, and getting the sales pitch at the local dealer, the scooter on craigslist sold. Not happy. On the plus side, I’ll just have to wait for the 150. I’ll have to find a different dealer though. These guys tried to sell me the 125 for 3,999 + whatever else comes after that. I just wonder that the new 150 will cost?

I'm fairly sure the 150 is directly replacing the 125. If there is a price increase, it should be minimal.

In Holland, a dealership was quoted saying that the 150 would cost a €200 premium over the 125. Tax is pretty hefty though, so I'm guessing it would be close to 200 USD.

I'd say the 150 would definitely be worth it (and hardly any less economical) if you plan on mainly using it on B-roads or short stretches of highway. If it's mostly a city bike, the added power makes 0 difference I'd say.
