All you need to do is take it to the dealer, point at it and say "give that a six hundred mile service please".

pcx125 ..600mile maintance??

Post by Alibally »

That's what I would do as well to be honest, but get a price first. Some dealers seem to check the valve clearances at the first service and some don't. It makes a big difference to the cost as the labour time is quite high to do this.
It's an oil change and checks basically. Things can slacken off between leaving the factory and the first service. I think mine cost about £65 if I remember rightly.

The 600 mile service is basically the final part of the manufacture and assembly quality control process and should be entrusted to a competent individual.
Anyone who can't even make sense of the service schedule probably isn't up to the job.

That is the general belief. Honda is overly conservative in the valve adjustment interval. Your mileage may vary.....

The valve clearance check interval on my 1986 Elite 250 is recommended every 4,000 miles. I have 18,000 miles on it now and it still runs fine without any adjustment required.

Just checked my valve clearances, the scooter has done roughly 15,000 miles and the clearances were absolutely spot-on.
Given the amount of time the dealer took to do the services I doubt the clearances have ever been checked till today.

At least do an oil change at 600 miles and clean the oil screen.
No need to let it warm up, just start and go but dont hammer it for the first few miles.

Service schedule says every two years.
But it should be fine to leave it longer than that.

for what it costs, change the gear oil every year, 180ml oil, and fresh oil never hurt anything!!

Make sure to get the dealer to do the first service, you can do the rest from there.

It's important to do an initial valve check, mine were off on the 600 mile maintenance. After that, you can either keep with the schedule, leave it alone, or somewhere inbetween. It's a single-piston, 2-valve engine -- it likely won't drop or burn a valve, it'll just stop getting compression and run poorly. Adjust it then, then keep riding. It's a scooter, not a Ferrari.
