People say that the belt needs replacing at 5,000 to 10,000 miles or so for optimal efficiency.

I only have a general idea how the belt works... And since it's a V-belt connected to the smooth variation and clutch drivefaces, I wonder if the belt must be checked at the outer edges instead of the splines. . . .

Maintenance schedule recommends inspecting every 8,000km and replacing every 24,000km. At 11,400km, I have not inspected mine yet..

My experience is a brand new belt will need a couple thousand miles to achieve optimal performance. I learned this by prematurely replacing a low mileage belt with a new one (both belts where identical cogged versions in this test). If anyone has suffered degrading performance and found a new belt to be the cure let me know otherwise the scheduled replacement recommendations by Honda might be more breakage prevention over maintaining performance. Hows the giddy-up with that belt?
