replacing rear wheel

Post by bertieburstner »

After alot of work I have removed the rear wheel to replace the rear brake pads with new ones.

I cannot get the rear wheel to fit as it seems to be snagging the new brake shoes. I have removed the brake adjuster so the brake cam is flat.

The wheel goes on so far and will not fit fully. I have filed down the edges of the pads but it still gets stuck.

Any ideas please. I bought the shoes off ebay and they seem to the right size, as I have put them against the old shoes.

Check the fit on the pivot pin, there may be a slot/boss to hold the shoe in place and the shoe might not be seating on it properly.
If its not that... maybe try carefully filing some metal off the faces of the shoes where they contact the actuator cam.
Or get genuine ones which are guaranteed to fit.
Four decades on two wheels has taught me nothing, all advice given is guaranteed to be wrong
