LED Tail light bulb, 2013 PCX150

Post by ajcatman »

I want to install an LED tail light bulb on my 2013 PCX (US) but I don't want to modify wiring or install a resistor. Is this possible by just installing the bulb or are any mods needed?

For the tail pight no external resistors needed. One needs the resistors (or rather a LED compatible blinker) in case of the turn indicators only to correct the rapid boinking of the indicators.
So in short: go ahead, no changes are needed.

It will fine as long as you do not add more led lighting. I had an LED bulb in my tail light but had to pull it once I added led strip lights and hooked up my tail box lights.

So we still haven't figured out a workaround for the additional lighting + LED tail light bulb for the 2013...

One would think that with all the brainpower we've got on this forum, that someone would have thought of a solution by now...

I would really like to talk to someone at Honda, preferably someone in the US, (not a dealer) to find out why this is so difficult.
I found something to put here.

Mel, can you please elaborate further why you had to pull them when you have installed the tailbox lights?
My led lights draw like 1/7th of the current of the normal lights and the brake circuit is a simple switched one so I see no issue in running them together.

Once I added the LED lights the original LED tail light stayed on high from then on no matter what I did. I eventually pulled the
Led tail light and put the original bulb back in, and everything worked like it was suppose to. I tried adding a resistor but either it wasn't strong enough or there was another problem that I didn't have time to work on. What is interesting is that the standard bulb is not an 1157 but it could use an 1157 if you needed to. It probably is the version of it that pulls less current.

I used a Sylvania Zevo 3157 LED bulb without any issues, don't have any other LED's on the bike so can't comment regarding Mels experience.

If light stays on all the time I would think the bulb is incorrect or the terminals are reversed on the bulb. The taillight power is connected to the brake light circuit at the same time. Both will stay on all the time if so. Bulb may be defective ??

When I removed the bulb I installed it on my SUV to see if it was defective, but it worked fine. I have the bulb sitting on a shelf right now, because the SUV is no more. I may try it again some day... or not. It isn't important since I have a lot of led lights in the back right now, and they work fine.

Mel, it could be that the bulb socket on the PCX is just a little different than the one on the SUV. Could be that the terminals are a hair closer together and there is bleeding across the terminals, but just far enough away on the SUV socket. just takes a hair separation. You could try another brand bulb and see if anything changes . Check the bulb contacts for separation distance. That's a tough one , but has to be a solution. You'll figure it out, but I know what you mean by low priority projects.. I have many .. LOL

I have a question on the type of tail light bulb.
May I know that the "leg" of the bulb is 180° or 150°?

Here is the bulb itself. I do note right now that the connectors are pretty wide. I don't know if this is normal for led or not.
By the way, the legs look 180°.
