Belt and roller change

Post by Skyskovski »

Ok so I took my 2013 scoot to the dealer for the 15000 service (I usually do a service myself to save money) and was told that the belt needed changing at 12000 miles. Wanting to save me some £££ I bought me the belt and roller set (£25) and is now ready to do the change over. my bike is now at 18890 miles so I think I really need to change the belt. Can anyone tell me how hard or easy it is to change the belt and rollers and how long it might take me? Any video will be greatly appreciated.
On another note, do I have to change the rollers or can they stay on?

19k on the belt, that is pretty impressive. It's easier to change the rollers and belt than explain. Someone else will I'm sure. If you lived closer I would do it for you, not the hardest job in the world.

So finally after 20102 mile, I decided to change my belt and rollers ( was rather easy I must say). looking at the belt I could easily get an extra 1000 - 3000 miles from it, the roller however were well worn. One thing I noticed is that I lost about 4 MPH on my top speed and so far I am only able to top at about 62 MPH however, it feels like I have a better acceleration (I prefer top speed). Any reasons as to why this? is it the belt or the rollers?

Factory parts? You were still hitting 66 mph with the worn out parts before the replacement? That would be unusual.

Are those rollers the same weight? Lighter weights would give you better acceleration. Too light, and the belt can't be pushed all the way out, causing a dip in top speed. The symptoms of that would be revving up to redline, but you're not going any faster.

I changed to 13gm rollers and acceleration is impressive. Top end is the same. I have to wonder if your drive face is now worn, causing the belt to stop at that point instead of moving further out when you hit redline.

I honestly don't know what's the weight (will try to find out), however I've notice that getting to 60 mph does not require full throttle and even if I open up fully, makes no difference, Just makes a heavy oscillating vibrating hum likes it's trying to do more. I will attempt to upload some pics of both new and worn parts ( belt and rollers) maybe someone will be able to say what is the issue. Thanks Guys.

That sounds to me like you didn't tighten your variator or clutch fully. I'd get the drive cover off and make sure there's no slack in the pulleys on the drive face or driven face ends. Easiest way is to pull the clutch bell in (you need some strong hands to do so), and carefully push the belt all the way out around it, then spin up the bike to seat the belt, then do the same on the variator side.

I've serviced a couple of PCXes that had the variator and clutch tightened with the belt in place, interfering with fully tightening both components and causing bad oscillating at speed.

Maddie you are right, However it's not because I did not put it tight enough. I remove the belt and compare them and found that the one I bought is slightly bigger than the original. (See pics) I refit the original and the noise is gone and I could once again reach 65 mph. I will now have to get me another one    .

The one on the picture that says "Honda-belt" on it is a fake.
A genuine Honda belt will say "Mitsuboshi" on it.

Interesting thread.

I changed my drive belt today, using a Honda 23100-KWN-901.

Is this the correct belt for the 2013 UK spec 125?

The new and old belts are shown in the picture below.

They are identical in dimensions but carry different part numbers.

http://www.partzilla.com/parts/detail/h ... N-901.html (2011 part - so not sure if there were changes on 2013/15 models). Why would there be so many if they were the same part? Seems there have been a few changes over the years - belt length?
