Scan Tool for Honda Scooters??

Post by tallcoolone1963 »

Good Day All!
I just bought a 2015 Honda PCX 150 recently, and am wondering if anyone has a Diagnostic/Scan Tool :geek: they use with this scooter. I have the 2 Honda Service manuals available, and would like to be able to do some diagnostics down the road when the time comes.

Perhaps, you will get more responses to this if you post it in the correct forum. This is the Forza forum, post it in the PCX-150 area.

I had a quick google search of motorcycle scanners and found this.

It's a bit pricey.

Try to make friends with the shop foreman at your Honda dealer. They will let you plug in with their scanner.

I don't think there is a scanner port on the PCX? I've never bumped into one

There is one. The red 4pin connector beside the battery.

You can bridge two of the pins on that red port with a paperclip or such to get a flashing light Moore's code sequence on the dash.
Reference the pattern with the service manual to find what the error code is.

Now if you told us which two pins we could make a simple diagnostic switch.
My Kenworth has one under the dash, I think it is a simple on off toggle, flip the switch turn the key and if any faults are apparent the codes will flash as you say as a Morse code.
Where on the Honda dash do the codes flash?

That's a great idea.

Hey Relic,

That is a deliberate omission on my part to make people stop and think before doing such a thing without researching it first. I don't have the service manual myself.
On my 2012 I think it is the orange and brown wire pins you bridge. It's probably the CEL/MIL that flashes, but there's not many lights there to flash in any case.

I might have a go at this sometime today and post the results. The problem being, if there are no errors, does it even flash at all?
I was waiting to be able to get to my oxygen sensor before testing this, so I could disconnect it and know that it should through an error.

If you can narrow down the two pins with some certainty, that would be half the battle.

OK, on my 2012 (2013USDM) I need to bridge the solid blue and brown wire pins.
On the connector these are vertical to each other on the left side of the notch at the north position.
I get a solid orange CEL/MIL, which I assume without the benefit of the service manual, means A-OK.
To clear the code you remove the bridge and turn the ignition completely off.
If Homie, Mel or Paul could check for us what a solid continuous code is, we will know for sure.
Sorry, I'm not about to go stripping the scoot down today to get to sensors to find false codes to test.

If you have an LED model, it would appear you bridge the solid green and brown wires.
As I don't have an LED to test this on, try/fry at your own risk.

I see Honda makes a jumper plug 070PZ-ZY30100 which could be toggled.
But as you say make sure you are jumping the right two wires
let's avoid any try and fry.

The $100 paperclip from Honda does the same thing. There's no resistor in it, just wire.
And if its the same design for OWL and LED, it will bridge green and brown for the LED.

Related to honda cars and such, not always bikes, but . . . (useful if the info to not turn off the bike but let it drop to idle should a fault develop or how to reset the code from the ECU memory - if that works for the PCX). Also, not got the service manual to hand, but that should advise more on how to check/test all this (believe the '15 admendment manual had more info in it, as the UK one comes in 2 parts not one as per the US).

I already did it this morning and got a solid orange CEL/MIL on the dash. Nothing started smoking or caught fire, and the scoot started normally.

Iceman's link to the CBR500 forum confirms you bridge the solid green and brown wires, which is what I said it was for the newer LED model.
Just remember its blue and brown on the older OWL model!
In the CBR500 forum link it also says you get a solid continuous CEL/MIL if everything is working fine. So my scoot isn't bricked. YAY! :D
