Magnetic oil drain plug

Any one install a Magnetic engine oil drain plug on their 125/150? I have one from these people coming in. http://www.drainplugmagnets.com/hondamotorcycles.php
Seem's to be high quality, though expensive. It bugs me that there is no true oil filter on these engines! these magnets would likely pick up a lot of metal. Funny though I have about it.... Wonder if it will magnetize the crankshaft... ahh even if it did, drought the metal could stay stuck to it during operation.

Naaaa, I just put a flat magnet from an old Hard Drive in between the oil screen and the spring.

I did the same thing on my old '86 Elite 250.

Not sure I'd do that actually in the oil.

You can pop one outside a canister type filter but the effect isn't great. The magnetic effect isn't huge and you only trap the particles that are already trapped by the filter, if any

Just change your oil/filter at 2/3 the recommended limit if you want to be extra sure

What about the gear oil drain plug? is it the same size as the engine oil drain plug? maybe I can get a magnet drain plug for the transmission to.

I know the answer to that now. Lower "drain plug" is a bolt.

I did a first oil change at 150 miles. There was a lot of metal in the gear box as expected. The engine oil was also metallic but not as much. It was fun placing the magnetic drain plug in the oil drained and watching the metal move across the drain pan to the magnet.
Do not have a picture of the drain plug, but, it looks just like the one in the link. The sealing washer is a lot smaller than the OE one, seems to seal fine.
Will see in two weeks how much metal the plug captured.

At least 3 times more than the engine oil. Honda recommends it changed every two years? maybe after 2 changes I'll leave it alone for a while

Yes my gear oil too, was much dirtier at the 600 mile service than the engine oil...
