More people are employed as drivers (local, long distance) of various vehicle types (cars, vans, small, medium. large trucks) than any other vocation. Knowing this, governments have taxed us and subsidized development and acceleration of this technology - complete with communications to the public that ONLY shows families and individuals sitting in their personal cars cruising happily down the road.

Meanwhile, the REAL target are commercial applications, and OUR tax $$$ used to subsidize this are actually **intended** to put millions of people out of work - with no 'heads-up' warning about that.

They are actually using taxes paid by people in these jobs ... to foster elimination of their jobs.

What other jobs will they do ... can everyone be a stock broker or programmer? Or will we be taxed more to pay their unemployment and welfare ?

Since the advent of the computer the intent was always to eliminate human labor.Population undoubtedly will have to be subsidized by the top 5 percent eventually, and when they have had enough war or disease will break out..

I can understand the argument on both sides but in the end computers are here to stay.
The more we use computers the less jobs there will be for the untrained. There is no way around it except to progress backwards, which is not going to happen unless there is a war that destroys everything.

Think about every advancement humanity has had and you will see that those who did not adapt died. Before steam ships there were "tall ships" with lots of sails. Then diesel-electric replaced steam. Then came nuclear. Where are the tall ships now, and those who maintain them??

We don’t have to agree with progress for it to happen. I fully expect that someday we won't be using gas as our primary fuel any more. That doesn't mean that there won't be lost jobs because of it, simply because we don't want there to be. That is progress.

There are no secure jobs.

One can only hope that our species progresses in all necessary ways to not only develop new technology and promote innovations, but to also have the maturity and wisdom to use it in a way that will add value to all life on this planet.

We borrow the future from our children. It would be nice if we could return it better than we found it.

Perhaps our focus should be realistic and based on cooperation in lieu of competition. It's the secret to success in all lasting life forms. It's a deep topic. I digress. Competition for space on the roads we travel is serious business. 8)
