Sounds like a case for "Nick Danger"! o_O

Ahhh. . .the good 'ol days. . .life was much simpler and all we had to worry about was mutually assured destruction and finding a gas station without a long line during the artificially created oil shortage. Those were the good times. . .we had nothing to fear but fear itself. . .and maybe MSG.

Stores were closed on Sunday. Families could get together at least one day a week. And you felt confident that you could get a job and get married (and it would last forever) and get a Ford Galaxy on a High School education. Lead paint and lead in gasoline and red dye were a part of everyday life.

Vinyl was and still is the greatest. . .Firesign Theater Albums. . .yes. . .those were the days. :D

Yes, I remember those days, and they were not that great either. Yep, gas shortages, and the kid down the block eating lead paint chips. Don't forget that we weren't held responsible for other people's stupidity then either. Now everyone has to find someone else who might be responsible for their stupidity.

A good example of that is the grocery cart. Who is dumb enough to let their toddler stand up in the top part of the cart? Oh, I know...please, please, can I answer?.. parents who wander off, leaving their child to its own devices while they are talking to a neighbor or are t the far end of the row from their cart.
It must be someone else who was responsible for watching their kid, like they should have been doing. None of my kids ever fell out of a grocery cart, or ran down the isles knocking stuff off of the shelves. If they did, they would get their butts smacked. Not any more.

Yep, those were the good old days.

Speaking of turn tables, how do you clean dust out of the grooves of records? I am converting some of my oldies that were stored for 35 years. Running a handkerchief around the record does nothing.

Mel - record cleaning pads existed, and probably still do. A bit of velour fabric, or nowadays a fine microfiber cloth, on a very soft bit of sponge gently pressed and rolled onto the grooves as you spin the record by hand will remove most of the offending bits. The pop and click filter in your audio program should take care of the rest. I use Goldwave, but a free solution is Audacity.

Get, or borrow, a carbon fibre brush. They aren't expensive

Dishwasher? You nuts?!! Great way to lose the label and melt the record.

I have all of The Beatles records on CD, but something happened to my Rubber Soul CD, so I pulled out my record album and am converting it. I have a very old copy of Cool Edit (1996) that still works on my Windows 7 machine, so I am using that. Still, records seem to collect a lot of dust in their grooves over the years.
Bed Bath and Beyond has the kits? Wow, I must get one! Their store is right down the street.

You have nothing to loose if you try a very light spritz with water and then gently run a fine, clean microfiber cloth around in the direction of the grooves. It might just git 'er done without a trip to the store.

It's nice when old software still works. I bought Goldwave probably twenty years ago, and they still will update me. I use it every week to extract bits out of our church service.
