It is, sand cast using lost wax.

Fascinating to watch, nice find.

Very interesting to watch. Real craftsmanship. They don't make'em like that anymore. A real example of labor intensive manufacturing that is becoming a lost art. Something you can stand back and look at as the end of the day approaches and say "I helped make that!". ;)

As an added note. . .notice no safety glasses, hard hats, or dust masks. You have to hand it to those people, they endured and had the character to go onward. 8)

Buell never made engines.
They used engines manufactured by other companies e.g. Rotax, but mostly Harley Davidson.

Where did they get reliability and durability from? Were they being ironic?

I do like watching these things though.

Oh I totally disagree with both of you. Buell did build and refine their engines exactly as the video states. They XB's will be running long after Jap bikes are in the salvage yards. There are Uly's out there with 200k on them.

Makes no odds whether you agree or not, that Buell never manufactured a motorcycle engine is a fact.

Another fact is that Buell only existed as a (semi) independent brand for four years after which it came fully under control of Harley Davidson.

The rest of the world looks at a Buell and sees a funny looking Harley and that's why Buell died.
People who want Harleys want them to look like Harleys.

You rebuilt your engine with 20k miles on it. Mine isn't regarded as being run in until that mileage.

I thought Buell built their Harley based engines themselves too mind you. They were a different spec.
