If you live on a part of the planet that is entering the "Rutting Season" (end of October into December) for deer, one key thing to remember is that they tend to travel in herds and if you see one you'll probably see more. They can sprint over 30 MPH. They are more often seen around water sources. Their hooves are very sharp. . .. Bottom line is if one of these runs across your path you'll have little time to react and ATGATT plays an ever more important role. But you already knew that right?

Had a pair of them leap out of nowhere when I was driving the car towing a boat once - bit scary. Thankfully it's rare here in New Zealand. Cagers pulling out of nowhere are a different story though; quite common all year round, unfortunately.

For cagers pulling out of nowhere, that's called "ruding season" ... as in "being rude all the time" season.

Thanks for this reminder! I'll be taking my annual ride to the park when our leaves have fully turned. I'll see deer. I use to ride my bicycle through those woods. No more. Got my one scare when one dashed out of the brush.

Here's a pic taken this past August. They have no fear (they gave That to me!)

Oh yes...we have deer that just walk right up into our neighbor's yard and eat his roses. You can bet our neighbor is Pissed! Those were his prize roses. Then the deer wander across the street to that neighbor's yard and munch on their clover/yard. Our subdivision is so close to major businesses and heavy traffic that I am surprised no deer have been hit yet on the 6 lane streets that cris-cross one block from us.

Reminds me of many dogs and their owners when I used to fly large radio control helicopters in the (empty when I started) public reserve across the road. It's all fun until the helicopter needs to land and there's a dog underneath a 1.5m disk of blades spinning at 2350 RPM.

The old guy that tried doing that made me realize how pathetic and sad that situation is for people to want to cheat the system to make money.

We have certain types of people here in the southern part of the United States who live off of insurance scams. Most of them have never worked an honest job in their life. The big thing is to buy an old junker car, wait on a side street until traffic is flowing at say 45 mph, pull out right in front of another car and take their foot off of the accelerator. This causes the innocent driver to rear end the junker car, and there you have it...whiplash in action...good for $100,000. If they timed it wrong or the other driver is too smart to get caught by this scam, the junker car goes around the block and comes back to the same spot to try again. They have nothing better to do, so they will do this until traffic thins out. Then they will wait until 5 o'clock traffic and try again.
