What's your other hobby...

Post by homie »

Today's MD finds on my Church's concert field. First time I had been out with my second hobby this season and as always it never fails to give me gold fever. This dig was for an hour and a half before dinner. The gear fits nicely in the scooter luggage and I will leave it there taking every opportunity to scoot by and dig up your yard if I think you have some old coin or jewelry

Need to add this to my photo album over at https://metaldetectingforum.com/
Yep this a another world people  but I have managed to combine my two hobbies

Reminds me of a funny post where a member was filming with his MD and he dug up an old Whites metal detector. He digs metal detectors too

This ring was not gold this time, 925 sterling silver CZ Amethyst stone... practically worthless  But until you get them home and clean them up you just can't be sure. With this super portable Minelab GoFind I don't get the molecular break down in the field like a high-end machine would display. Still the thrill until you get it home and there's always a next time 8) Sun light plays tricks on silver when its been in the ground for a while.

Metal Detecting? sounds a lot of fun. How do you determine where to look? Or you could just start anywhere you want? Just curious..

I dig travel and Photography but was lazy to do it for the past year or two..

Some of my shots

1. HK
2. Erawan Thailand
3. Huahin Thailand

It's a beautiful planet Alex aka (Mr. Chin)
If you don't mind I'm going to give the 'Erawan' to my wife for paint. She's pretty darn good at oil paintings and that's her favorite landscapes. Every wall in my home is covered with her oil paintings

Yes, she can paint Erawan if she wants. Would be interesting to see that in oil paint.

A common question Mr. Chin 8) The truth is if you had a MD and a fuel efficient vehicle you could set out tomorrow without a penny in your pocket and cross the entire USA coast to coast picking up change for gas and food the whole way. There is more coin in the ground here than in circulation. People sit down and it falls out out their pockets (coin spill) I dug three or four today at that concert park. Silver is highly identifiable with a metal detector... you can't miss a quarter. But the surprise is the jewelry :o It doesn't take long going from park to playground, campus, school, concert lawns, even the 15 feet between the sidewalk and the street is city property. You can walk right down old neighborhood blocks inside that 15 feet if you want. Night is a better time to do that because people get nervous when someone turns a clod on their lawn  But MD'ers live by a code and you can't even tell we've been there so relax. It's easy, it's fun and right in the same family of nerds who like um... Scooters!

Nice find homie!! You Rock! Speaking of rocks, I'll ask; is the ring real? Gold, stone, the diamonds? Hot Damn if it is! 8)
I never got the MD. That folding Go Find is the one! My back issues are keeping me from having fun gettin' wealthy :|
Reaching and swinging, that's the deal braker (I think).
Me birthday's coming :D aw but my list is long already.
A New back is at the top. Yeah,...No, that's not happening.
But I'm not saying no to the "Find." Not yet.
Good Luck and may the buzzer keep buzzing!

This ring was NOT gold this time 8) .925 sterling silver CZ Amethyst stone... practically worthless. Well, it must be worth something because my wife scurried off with it faster than a rat with cheese.

PS they beep WN beep, beep :D is no buzzing. If you aren't up for the 'bend and snap' you probably should not take this hobby up.

Nice pictures

Got to admit I wouldn't mind picking up metal detecting. Could be a good thing to start with the grandkids.

I dig photography as well. . ..

For some reason this picture makes me think of that scene where Kurtz's hideout is first discovered (the arrival) in the movie "Apocalypse Now". :geek:

you you wrote:Got to admit I wouldn't mind picking up metal detecting. Could be a good thing to start with the grandkids.
The kids are too cool to be seen with one  Pure pressure might forbid them to enjoy this hobby unless very young.

You don't need a big investment in gear, $200 will get you as deep as you care to dig. Toss the change in a bucket and use it to buy a high tech machine in the future. You'll begin to see opportunity everywhere 8) If I see a coke machine sitting on a slab next to open grass, there is enough right there to top off your PCX and drive 200 miles to the next town! OH I dream of a Gipsy life  If you're old enough to remember where the coin toll gates were before they converted to electronic transponders, these are silver land fills o_O

You'll need a pin pointer at $140 but makes the hobby enjoyable and has a LED light for night hunts. With one of these on your belt you're in and out of the ground in seconds stepping on the plug and moving on. Flatten a beer belly in two weeks 8)

Also this Lesche digging tool is the only product designed for enthusiast. It will never break and thrusts without giving blisters on your hands. Not cheap but again pays for itself in time. A massive forum of supporters and information drive you crazy in pictures and video of AMAZING finds daily! Especially in the old countries o_O OMG! they find the coolest stuff.

You "Find" and Wife "Go's" - Typical ;)
I still want a Go Find, the hell mit my back! Farty days lie ahead (ok, around the bend) What-Ever.
When I find gold bars, all will be fixed :D

I have six cameras but due to a combination of bad memory and laziness I usually manage to leave them home, so when this opportunity came up I had to use my iPhone.

It looked good enough to have a canvas print made and this now hangs in our dining area.
