boats... do we like them?

Post by homie »

I own a SeaDoo jetboat. It has twin rotax engines and resides in Michigan with my father-in-law. It was fun for a while but a boat gets rather boring and takes up too much space. Plus it's a monks nightmare o_O A pretty little yellow 16 footer used for tubing the river and lake Michigan as long as winds were out of the southwest and less than 10 mph... it's casual.

Once I was stupid and went out on lake Michigan in higher winds and bad weather, the little boat is unsinkable but that doesn't mean it always floats right side up o_O that was scariest thing on NO wheels.

Now days the old man goes fishing in it... in a jet boat
I don't miss it and I don't look forward to having it returned. A motorbike is much more useful and satisfying IMO.

I owned a sailboat once. It was fun but there was a lot of maintenance. In fact, I finally sold it because I spent more time fixing it than sailing it.
Currently own:
Red 2013 Honda PCX150

Givi tall windshield & tailbox - Lots of extra lights
Custom seat from Thailand - Bad Boy Airhorn
Takegawa Lowering Shocks - Michelin City Grip Tires
Headlight assy upgraded to LEDs w/HS5 main bulbs
NCY variator, drive face, and rollers

Yup. Wind? Go Sailing. No wind? Go scooting. Life is pretty OK.

Owned a canoe once.
You don't want to be bucking a headwind in one of those babies.
They have a tendency of going around in circles or backwards.
No I don't like boats.

George SKG, that is a beautiful sailboat. Reminds me of mine. I miss it, but I am too old to do the work required to keep one looking so nice. Old age sucks.

Oh My God, "Where Do I Begin?"......
I love All these vessels, small and large. Beautiful! And they float! So Amazing.

Rock Steady? :? Not always
I too was caught in a storm. It was off of Cold Spring Harbor in a row boat fishing! Talk about scary? Thunder, lightening and me with Wet pants! o_O I kissed the dock when I got in. Bad experience! No fish either.

I don't have a boat but grew up with one in my family. Relatives took me on it every weekend. It was docked right near the Throgs Neck Bridge as it was Being Built. It was So cool to watch them piece it up, bit by bit, step by step. We rode under it every ride as they constructed it.
A Bit of history: that bridge connects the Throggs Neck section of the Bronx with the Bay Terrace section of Queens. Briefly, it was built between the Bronx and Queens and opened in 1961 to ease the congestion on the Bronx Whitestone Bridge.

Okay, so it was my Uncle's Owens Cabin Cruiser like the one below but his a few feet larger. I love and miss our venture's together - rip Unc Dan. Absolute Best Days of my Childhood! And the fishing? Marvelous. Blowfish and flounder Filled our garbage can! That's Unheard of today! Caught me a Stingray and a Sand Shark, Eels, sea robins, and.....more.

If I could! I'd own a boat motorbike/scoot and muscle car...maybe several :D of each!

Go For It if You Can! You really only live once....it's NOT just a saying ;)

Boats would be fine if they didn't move in all directions at once.
Big ones that don't move around so much are OK, the ones where you laze about on deck in the sunshine and have a flunky bring you chilled refreshments are the best.
Four decades on two wheels has taught me nothing, all advice given is guaranteed to be wrong
