There not aftermarket at all, there from the mk5 golf.

In my opinion *thats all it is, my opinion* theres no better looking wheel on earth. And the mk4 always has been and always will be the best looking golf out of all of them, so with these alloys reckon im onto a winner. Plus a good set of wheels completely transforms the look of a car. To me they look better on the mk4 golf than the mk5, and its my car so its my opinion that matters :) :

Haters can hate, I love those rims on the Golf. They look excellent.

Gonna be an expensive month. Car is booked into mechanics on the 27th for:
Cambelt change
full service
door lock module fault - car doesnt recognise drivers door has been opened
brake lights not sensitive enough
speedo 5mph fast (even when stationary)
rear right door wont open from inside or outside
battery drain issue.

Sigh.

At least you know the limits of your skills. :lol:

I have to do a whole bunch of work on my truck next month, it's also due to get its main belt changed...

Oookay full service done for £154. He fixed the speedo and brake lights issue for free for me.
Cambelt getting done wednesday - £250+vat
My rear door, he said id need a new locking module from VW, about £100. But after a bit of searching through the uk-mkivs forum ive managed to fix it myself for free :D :D :D
Dont think there was a battery issue, just started a bit iffy one morning but seems perfect recently even after leaving for days.
Front door issue, im taking gn2's advice and ignoring. Just need to get another key cut in case!

Cambelt came to £232.80
I was expecting about £300 so pretty pleased. Means I've got more money to spend in Cardiff on the 19th now :)
Anyone been to Cardiff and wanna recommend me anywhere good to go or somethin to do there? Got a spare day there basically, my girlfriends getting tattooed and then were staying the night in a hotel paid for by lloyds tsb, because I switched my current account to them and they had an offer on at the time :)

I hate car insurance SOOO much :x
Basically ive been wanting to do a "bolf" conversion since ive bought the golf. You get a bora (Jetta for you americans) front end and just swap the bonnet, wings, grille, headlights and bumper over. Very simple, they just swap over. Plus its free. So i end up with a bolf, and someone else ends up with a gora. In my eyes its how the golf should have come out the factory, still looks OEM and 100 times better. A bit different, and not too "everyone look at my car"
So i end up with this (think the bonnet may have been extended on this one though, so not quite like this but you get the picture):

And someone who owns a bora thats willing to do a swap ends up with this:

And everyones happy. So i found a guy on the uk-mkiv's forum desperate to swap his bora front end with someone with a golf. It was even the same paint code as mine. He was all the way down in Swansea, but on the 19th im going down there anyway. Perfect. So i email Admiral asking how much (if any) it would add to my premium. And i get this email back:

So thats that plan outta the window. Insurance doesnt get along with me, so im just gonna keep the car standard, maybe only do very minor mods like colour code the rub strips, get some osram diadem indicators. Anything you have to declare to insurers just isnt worth it.

Correct.
Plus modifying your car reduces it's value and reduces the number of people who would be interested in buying it.
Had you swapped the bodywork over your car would now be practically worthless.

That had entered my mind gn2, but i would never sell a car, id just keep driving it until it died. My first car, a polo, i carried on driving after it had been written off from being rear ended, just looked like crap. I then hit a lampost, carried on driving, just looked worse. It then started pissing oil everywhere and the entire centre console stopped working so i basically got scrap value (£150) towards my astra. Im sure your aware of what happened with that. I still actually own the astra, just waiting for the V5 to come back from the number plate swap so i can scrap it. So resale value is of no interest to me. This being a volkswagen i expect it to last a good few hundred thousand miles aswell. Its only on 62000 now. Unless this gets written off aswell (touch wood).

Bad news I'm afraid, VWs are not very reliable.
Just because their advertising slogans say they are reliable does not make it so.
If you want reliability, Toyota or Honda or Nissan.

Reliable is a relative term. I wouldn't expect 400,000 miles out of anything but a Honda or Toyota. You could probably get half that out of a Nissan or VW, which is still within the realm of a few hundred thousand miles that Woolley wants.

Plus, even regarding the lower reliability, Hondas are expensive to maintain. VWs are cheaper to fix, even if they do break more. The same logic is why I bought a Ford Ranger instead of a Toyota Tacoma. An equivalent Tacoma to my Ranger would have easily cost $8,000-$10,000 more for the same year and mileage. My Ranger might break down more, and will probably blow up at least one engine before it hits 300,000 miles (unlike the Tacoma, which would shrug off 300,000 miles) -- but a new engine in a Ranger costs a fraction of what a new engine in a Taco would cost.

Thats the same car, same engine as mine. 90hp 1.9 tdi golf.
Obviously none of us know the history of that car, but the guy who posted the video left a comment:
"Am I sure about what? The miles? Yes, I bought the car brand new. I've had a few problems, but nothing major.
I bought the VW instead of a Toyota because VW was the only manufacturer to offer a diesel engine in a car in the US. I used to own a '94 Toyota pickup truck and it was very reliable, but it wasn't powerful enough for my job, and it didn't get the kind of mileage (50mpg) that the Golf gets. If Toyota offered a diesel in the US, I probably would have bought one."

Just goes to show its possible.

Sorry, I completely forgot you got a diesel. For some reason, I was thinking your VW ran on standard gas. You'll easily get that out of a diesel, the engines go forever.

Diesel VWs are indestructible. I think I mentioned in another thread my friend's ancient VW Rabbit that he runs on biodiesel. Can't kill the damn thing...
