Heard some problems about Yamaha scooters' crankcase cracking. These are low mileage stock scooters. Could it be a factory defect? Any theories?

Model affected is the Nmax 155 and the Aerox 155.

Saw one case in Philippines and another one in Thailand.

Could be down to abuse by the user.
Removing one of the shocks is a popular modification and could be the cause.
Also overloading, potholed/dirt roads/off-roading etc.
But probably just shit design or manufacture.
Yamaha not the only Thai builder with this problem, it also affected a number of the original PCX when the main stand lugs tore holes out the crankcase.

alx123, structural miscalculation engineers, too have facilitated the design of the crankcase. Carter has to be one of the most durable engine components. It can be destroyed only when an external strong impact.

Let's just hope Yamaha figure this out soon. I would love to get an Nmax when I get back in Philippines, since the PCX was not being sold there.

Is that the same engine they use in the SMax?

Yamaha had scooters manufactured in Taiwan also. . .they were always spoken well of. :geek:
