Re: across the US and back on the PCX125... my experiences

Yes curious to know if you used a tent and if so which one ? I didn't use a tent on this trip, but have been motorcycle camping a few times (on a bigger BMW). I use one of the REI backpacking tents (something like the Kelty Salida Tent 2) which has a lot of ventilation, is lightweight, and packs up...

Re: across the US and back on the PCX125... my experiences

Did you ride with a group? Did you camp or stay in hotels? This thread is going to be epic! Thanks for sharing your adventure. Thanks. All of the ride was solo, but I had tremendous support along the way from the other Cannonball Run riders. Even with such a big rally, one ends up riding alone most...

Re: across the US and back on the PCX125... my experiences

Thank you for the kind words. Below are a few more travel pics of this ride, which include some of the signage along the way. I tried to take a "welcome" picture of every state I crossed, but the signs along some of the back roads were not always there... To anyone who thinks that long-dis...

Re: across the US and back on the PCX125... my experiences

Below are some of the most important mods I made to the bike for long-distance touring. The big three mods to make this (or any bike) ridable for 12+ hours at a time are the seat, windshield, and throttle control. Let's start with the biggie: the seat. While the original setup on the PCX works fine ...

Re: across the US and back on the PCX125... my experiences

Great first post on the trip. I am looking forward to seeing more and will be marking this for notifications when replies are posted. It must have been a great trip, but across the US and back in 21 days is quite a feat on a 125cc scooter. Did it leave much time for sightseeing ... beyond gas stops...

Re: What is the most gas-efficient speed?

The best mileage obtained was 132 mpg at 30-35mph. More commonly, I get 105 mpg at around 40 mph, and at 50mph, the mpg drops to the low 90's. At these speeds, most of the energy used on a motorcycle is to overcome wind resistance. So, yes, in theory a draft team would improve efficiency (just like...

Re: across the US and back on the PCX125... my experiences

Thanks, folks. There are a number of photos I took, a few are included below. It was a truly an awesome adventure which I'll write more about soon. There were just so many states, beautiful landscapes, wonderful places, and people I met that I can't contain them to a single post, but I'm in the proc...

across the US and back on the PCX125... my experiences

Hello, back in April 2012, I rode my Honda PCX125 across the US, as part of the Scooter Cannonball Run (Savannah, GA to San Diego, CA) then rode back home to the east coast (Washington DC). Altogether I rode over 7,000 miles, crossing 21 states in 21 days, averaging about 300 miles per day. I am hap...

Re: Bought New PCX150

The PCX 125 is indeed one tough scooter. Long distance is no problem for this bike. There was one Honda PCX125 in the 2012 Scooter Cannonball Run. (The results are posted online at http://www.scootercannonball.com/results/2012Updates.php. ) A guy rode the PCX from Washington DC to the start (Savanna...
