Re: What's your other hobby...

I used to have my own studio - but it was costing some $8000 or so a year in rent so I let it go (with m...

Re: What's your other hobby...

One reason I got the Sony MX100 is because it had a one inch sensor, which was unheard of in a pocket-sized camera. I thought "that's great!" even though I didn't have a clue what that meant (I still don't). If I had gotten a nice DSLR and set it to Automatic, will I still have gotten tha...

Re: PCX shelter

I believe they may be referred to as "sprint" cars in the US and Canada. I saw them live once and thoroughly enjoyed it. If I recall, they are direct drive with no gears, once the engine is running, it is moving unless you are holding it back with the brake. Is that correct? I'm not 100% ...

Re: My driver's license test on the PCX

It doesn't come with those dots (whatever they're called) on the ends of the visor where the pinlock attaches. I have to get a new pinlock-ready visor. I still would've gotten the Qwest, but come on, some cheapo $100 helmets have those dots. I'm short but have this big fat pumpkin head. I had to or...

Re: Honda pcx 125 ,2017

I don't bother to warm up mine - I just take it easy for a few minutes (no "full throttle" stuff etc).

I don't think I'd be too concerned - be interesting to hear what others have to say about it though.

Re: My driver's license test on the PCX

BTW, Shoei cheaped out on their Qwest helmet. It is a great helmet, but come on, it doesn't come with a pinlock and the cheek pads give me the fish face. No pin-lock? Yikes! They're absolutely essential in winter and in the rain. Generally I find that all I need to do on my Schuberth C3 Pro (with p...

Re: What's your other hobby...

1) The laying tree is my attempt at the rule of thirds. And it's ... fine. Sometimes photography is presented as art ... but often it's just a record of what was in front of the lens at the time. Not every shot is going to be large-format canvas material :) 2) The road photo has an overly-contraste...

Re: My driver's license test on the PCX

Not being allowed to crack opebn the visor not only seems daft but utter tosh - not saying it's not allowed on the test but come on, to ride safely you need to crack the visor open to clear the mist and allow fresh air in, it's why they are adjustable in the first place. Madness. Agreed. But it see...

Re: Speedometer Console Backlights problem!

It's more likely a connection issue as stated, perhaps poor soldering on the inner circuit board, but mostly likely if not a multi way connector issue, some bad wiring from ECU/Battery to console - could be a poor earth connection or such. The circuit diagrams can be found searching this forum or g...

Re: Speedometer Console Backlights problem!

I'm located in Thailand, the cost here quite expensive for a complete unit. As an electrical engineer, a repair is more cost effective if I can obtain the parts required. I'll keep you updated with any progress. Hope it goes well for you. I spent 7 years as an Avionics Tech in the RNZAF - about 4 o...

Re: What's your other hobby...

Thanks, I will do that. I'm thinking of getting a DSLR despite my reservations. I travel extremely light and I know those things can weigh a ton. I cringe at some of the photos I've taken over the years. How can anybody screw up a photo of the Taj Mahal? I can! Coming back to the rule of thirds, it...

Re: My driver's license test on the PCX

In my state, I'm not sure what the restrictions are as a minor, but as an adult all you have to do is first take the written learner's permit test which costs around $20. It's a joke and anybody can pass it in their sleep without even studying the manual. Then you take the road test, which lasts a ...

Re: My driver's license test on the PCX

Okay, so I bought the PCX about a month ago, but I didn't get my license until a few days ago. Where I live, it takes forever to schedule a road test. Anyhow, here's how it went: I scheduled it for 8:15 in the morning. That was not a wise move. As I drove 25 miles to the test site, I was constantly...

Re: What's your other hobby...

One thing I regret is not being a skilled photographer. Some of the photos you folks take are incredible. On my last big trip, I Googled "best point and shoot camera for morons" and bought the Sony MX100. I think if I had a photographer's eye, I would've better appreciated the places I've...

Re: Speedometer Console Backlights problem!

Thanks Maverick for the schematic/wiring colour code pin-out. Like you say, at least we know they actually use LED's now in the speedo console as opposed to normal dash bulbs. Just don't know what type, size, manufacturer details etc. Main "backlight" showing 2 led's connected in series, ...

Re: Speedometer Console Backlights problem!

I did a bit of Googling for you - and looked up the manual - nothing of significance found I'm afraid.

From the manual we can see that they're LEDs, but no further breakdown.

Re: My driver's license test on the PCX

BTW, I was told by somebody in Hamilton that a lot of Kiwis go to Rarotonga, pay a few dollars for the driving test, which consists of simply driving 50 meters down the road, turn back and get an international license good for several years. I hear many husbands take their wives on a brief holiday ...

Re: My driver's license test on the PCX

I should've left a crack before I started the test, but I was so nervous that my mind went blank. I had heard horror stories of examiners failing people over the slightest things. You say something stupid, fail. Examiner is having a bad day, he takes it out on you. I said "yes sir and no sir&q...
