Re: Diesel + Road + Darkness = Off into the scenery

Glad to hear you're OK.

With all the diesel, mud, glass, pot holes etc. let alone those on four wheels, I'm surprised we don't all crash every day several times. On the dark ride home from work it is impossible to see all the hazards.

I'm a bit late with this but there was a gust recorded at 111mph at Great Dun Fell in the North Penines, Cumbria, during this period - http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?client=safari&rls=en&q=great+dun+fell&oe=UTF-8&redir_esc=&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=_nIMT7fjO8fpOfbzvaoH&sa=X&am...

Re: PGM-FI Problems.

It was a fault on the speed sensor. It's being fixed under warrantee :) Mention of wires made me think. Under the under seat storage box I noticed one of the cables (left hand side), was partially squashed by one of the mounting bolts for the box. It seemed deliberate in order to hold the cable in p...

Re: Dynabeads and the PCX

Have you noticed a difference since you installed, edscoot? I've done a 150 miles or so now with them and I can't say I felt any dramatic difference. You maybe need to have a very smooth road surface to get the benefit. Next time I replace the tyres I'll put some anti puncture stuff in - it seems a...

PGM-FI Problems.

I've just repainted my exhaust system. After refitting the exhaust I let the engine idle for 15mins to cure the paint (as per the instructions on the paint can), before setting off for a half hour ride to get the paint fully cured at full operating temp. Anyway, I set off and then realised that the ...

Re: Dynabeads and the PCX

Working like that ? The instruction sheet you get with the kit tells you to screw the tube onto the valve (after removing the core and deflating the tyre), then empty one of the two bags of beads into the bottle and click it into the free end of the tube. You are then supposed to tip the bottle up ...

The heated insoles look interesting but they use a lot of battery power. Do those hand warmer things you got from amazon warm your fingers or just the palm of your hand?

Haven't had a chance to try them yet. My scooter is in bits while I rust proof it. They rattle around in the tyres though.

Re: Dynabeads and the PCX

I just put in 1oz of Dynabeads (kit 9) each, in my tyres. What a pain. It takes ages to do it with the applicator thing that's supplied with the beads, and they frequently jam up in the valve tube. If I were to get these again I would definitely get them put in when the tyre is put on. This seems to...

Re: my winter transport

I learned to drive in the winter so snow, Icy roads etc don't really bother me too much. It's a bit like riding a bike, look well ahead on the road and be smooth and sensible. You won't go far wrong.. I'll lend you my BMW. You might find it a bit surprising  I'm sure it's just the wider tyres ...

Re: my winter transport

Last winter we had a long very cold spell, -10ish, and quite a bit of snow, though not deep it wouldn't thaw. I drive a 1998 BMW 5 series automatic with about 134,000 on it now. That car is SHIT in snow or ice o_O. Truly terrifying! It'll break traction without warning at slow speed, driving in a st...

Re: Humped?

I'll sometimes ride like the second example you give if I'm on a long, boring road like a dual carriage way. You don't get the chance to move around so much on these roads and your body gets stiff and you need to stretch your legs a bit. Mostly though I sit like you.

Re: Poor gas mileage

Have you had your 600 mile service done yet? It might improve after this. I guess if you ride in city traffic only then you may use more fuel. I've had 132mpg (imperial gallons), once - never full throttle, smooth riding on country roads (but these were quite hilly). Spend the next week riding reall...

Greece leaks PCXs.

Got told by my local Honda dealer today that they (Honda UK), are getting their PCXs from Greece now. Because of all the economic worries in Greece, scooter sales are down, so Honda have moved the stock out and sent it (presumably) around the rest of Europe. UK models just need the speedo changed fr...

I'm 5'10" too. The hump could become a real pain for me after an hour or so in the saddle - but no more thankfully.

Humped?

Anybody else got used to their hump yet? It used to bother me, especially on longer rides, but now I'm not even aware of it. This seems to have happened without me even noticing it - maybe July or August was possibly the last time I noticed it - it only gives me a problem when it gets my backside we...
