Re: 2015 PCX 150 top speed

I'm not happy with my new Yamaha SMAX. (There's lots to like about it — but it's just not for me.) Am looking for a first bike. Am looking at both PCX 150 and SMAX. Was curious to know what you did not like so much about the SMAX. Thanks and I appreciate any of your insights! Of course. Here's some...

Re: 2014 Metropolitan (U.S.) - Honda is giving us COLORS!!!!

Fun! Does your wife also have a PCX? She does! But to be honest, we hardly use our PCXs. The Metros are so much better at hauling groceries and any other bulky items, thanks to that bag hook and flat floorboard.... and they're cuter.... and nimbler... and easier to maneuver in our garage.... We onl...

Re: Replacement Windshield

I'm 5'8", and like many of you, 'enjoy' oodles of helmet buffeting with my Givi 322. Most of my rides are relatively short (10 miles or so), but fast. I'm honestly thinking of going back to the stock screen -- the short distances aren't enough for the full-body wind fatigue of the stock set-up ...

Re: NCY Variator, Face Plate, 13gr Rollers, Belt for 2013 1

I installed the NCY variator, face plate, and 12g rollers on my 2011 PCX 125 (approx. 4,500 miles), and gave her a new OEM belt at the same time. Pulling RPM full throttle: 7800-7900. Max speed (flats, no wind): 62 MPH (GPS). I've subsequently installed a second, identical set (NCY variator, face pl...

Re: not breaking engine in gently: what are negatives?

300 miles. What is that -? A handful of days riding your new scooter? :P I hear ya. But it also depends a bit on the scoot. If the listed break-in period for a Metro is 600 miles..... That would be 20 hours of riding at 30 MPH, or 30 hours of riding at 20 MPH (a more realistic average speed for som...

Re: not breaking engine in gently: what are negatives?

Huh, interesting. Sadly, I'm one of those who lacks the patience to baby the thing at the beginning. We'll see if it comes back to bite me. My wife and I bought brand new pendant 2014 Metropolitans -- mine blue, hers orange. THAT would have been the perfect time to put things to the test, if ...

not breaking engine in gently: what are negatives?

Folks, what are the supposed negative effects of not breaking an engine in gently? Does it negatively effect the performance of the engine (lower top speed, worse acceleration, etc.)? Reduce the engine's lifespan? Make catastrophic failures more likely? What actually ARE the negatives?

what is Power Peak for a 2014 Metropolitan?

Hi folks, I'm installing a new variator on my 2014 Honda Metropolitan (=Giorno), and thinking of playing with roller weights..... I've got the tach, but have no idea what RPMs I should be aiming for. I.e., what's the power peak is for its tiny air-cooled engine? Is it close to 8,000, as it is for th...

What is recommended torque for the clutch nut?

Hi folks, I'm going to try replacing the old belt on my 2011 PCX 125. I seem to remember that recommended torque on the nut holding the variator assembly in place is 44 lbs.... But don't know about the nut for the clutch. Could someone enlighten me? :P (If anyone has any tips for swapping out belts ...

Re: 2015 PCX 150 top speed

1,750 rpm at idle. Hopefully 8,000 at full throttle as you pull through 30-50 mph. Now that you have the longer gearing of the clone NCY vario, you may never see redline again at 9,600 rpm which would be 80 mph. So, having installed the NCY variator & drive face, with 12g rollers, along with a ...

Re: 2015 PCX 150 top speed

Hun, interesting.... So if I understand right, ideally I'd like to find rollers of a weight that would pull at or a little above 8,000 when full-throttling up from 30 through 50 mph or so, and would hit naturally limited (by wind & weight) top-speed at something like..... oh, maybe 8,800 on flat...

Re: 2015 PCX 150 top speed

Yesh, those results with the NCY were on my 2011 125. With Givi Mid. (I think I said small earlier, but can't edit the dratted post.) I've got a 2013 150 too, so I'll be interested to hear your results.... You're using 13g rollers? Hmmm, I used no loctite..... perhaps I should? (and get an impact dr...

Re: 2015 PCX 150 top speed

@SECoda, I see you've got exactly the same variator/clutch holding tool I used. To get both the stock off, and the NCY on, I had to use the longer rectangular prongs of the tool, rather than the shorter cylindrical nubbins on its reverse side. (Those nubbins are just a tad too wide to fit into...

Re: 2015 PCX 150 top speed

Nice shot SECoda! I'm sure you're right. In my case, I decided to take the side panel off because I'd never done any of this before, and wasn't even sure where all the bolts for the drivetrain cover were located. Finally I did manage to get the side panel back on at the end -- just needed a small sc...

Re: 2015 PCX 150 top speed

These boards don't allow a user to edit his own posts after a few minutes have elapsed? Weird. I just wanted to say that I found the standard idle speed (roughly 1,600 - 1,800) by searching these boards. Amazing, what this forum has.

Re: 2015 PCX 150 top speed

You can still try to use the holding tool carefully to see if you can get the nut tight without breaking any fins. If it feels like there is no part of the NCY face that is sturdy enough to hang on to, stop. That's what I did. Wedged the prongs of the holding tool between the fins of the NCY drive ...

Re: 2015 PCX 150 top speed

I'm curious to see a good comparison to find out what the difference is. Especially the drive face which another brief comparison seemed to show that it had no difference from stock to look at them. I wonder if it milled down a little more at the inner boss. Sorry Sendler, in the dark light in whic...
